I know some people are complaining that the third season is following some beats of TWOK and that it's a retread of a greater movie. Lot of people don't like Shaw. I think hrs great and pretty much has been right on everything. Some don't like that picatd is back on a starship and that its just the same old same old and too.luch nostalgia. Well after 2 years of Picard acting like a dodderkng old man who lost his leadership and having to sit through the episodes on the chateau and under the chateau out finally see his mother committed suicide I'll glad take nostalgia and Picard declaring "Belay that order" on the bridge of a starship any day of the week. I'll gladly take seeing worf back as a klingon warrir that still looks like a klingon. I'll gladly take seeing Riker back as the laid back loyal fun officer we all remember. Yeah I dont miss that chateau at all and I don't miss any of the other characters on those first two seasons. They should have done this from the start. It's not perfect but man it's better and I'll take it.

It’s never been a mandatory thing. No one forces the woman to change her name.
Social pressure: people are really hard on married women who don't change their names.

In the 2006 survey, students were three times more likely to say that if a woman didn't take her husband's last name upon marriage, she was less committed to him and their future together.

If you're programmed from an early age to believe that if you don't take your husband's last name you'll be a bad wife, what do you think most women will do when they get married?

It not a retread on ONE TOS Feature film, so far it's got story elements of 4 TOS Feature Films:
ST:TMP
STII:TWoK
STIII:TSfS
and
STVI:TUC

(And if you ad musical cue elements, add the TNG feature film, ST:FC ;))

It's a common joke when the woman is seen as more dominate in the relationship. The Doctor makes the same joke with Amy and Rory.
What else you got?
It's so obvious it was a joke that I don't understand how people think it's a proof of Betazoid customs. And I don't think anyone calls him "Commander William Troi" in "Picard".

Right it's a mix. Glad they are doing it. If I dont see a French chateau in a star trek show ever again I won't be sad. Lol

I noticed he was the one who eyed Riker when they came on board but was it also the same person from the bar?

Nope. Two different guys.

Does anyone else find it wholly …inappropriate that Beverly names her and Picard’s secret son after her long dead husband?? I mean, talk about adding insult to injury. She really must have had it in for Jean-Luc for whatever reason.

She sure got a LOT of explaining to do.

Jack was also Jean-Luc's friend, so I don't think he'd mind.

It's possible Jean-Luc might have done the same. As stated, Jack was his best friend.

Someone mentioned it already, but in the novels he was named Jacques after Jack Crusher.

Well, that's ONE of his names anyway. ;) The boy's full name is René Jacques Robert Francois Picard.

I remember that guy. Chad Lindberg. He was in one of my favorite Law & Order: SVU episodes ("Fallacy"). Lucky bastard got to kiss Katherine Moennig...

I don't think Beverly meant anything ill by it.

First off, she clearly has nothing against Picard as such, otherwise she would never have contacted him in the first place. They may not have worked out as lovers, but clearly she still cares for Picard and trusts him implicitly.

Secondly, she might have chosen the name "Jack" as a reminder of what she'd lost. Jean-Luc is still alive, and she can contact him whenever she wants. Jack Sr., OTOH, has been dead for decades, so Beverly may have named her son as a bit of nostalgia for her beloved departed husband.

And lastly, she may have thought that naming the boy Jean-Luc might attract attention that she doesn't want. The name "Jack Crusher" wouldn't raise any red flags, since Jack Sr. was a well known and respected officer. People hear that name, they'll shrug it off and not get suspicious. But perhaps Beverly didn't want to drag Jean-Luc into whatever mess seems to have developed, so she chose to leave his name out of it.

Exciting.

I am also disappointed in learning Jack is Picard's son. I didn't realize I would be. If he was born when Crusher was away in S2 of TNG, when the hell did the two hook up? And how does it make sense with episodes like "Allegiance" and "Attached"? And if it's they hooked up between episodes and the real issue was emotional connection between them and not sex, how is that satisfying to the whining Genwunners who hate everything?

I think I just came up with a perfect time for Picard/ Crusher to have hooked up! It could’ve happened in the gap between Generations and First Contact and that would be perfect. The time factor is just about right and Picard was very distraught over the loss of his brother and nephew. Would make sense for him to seek comfort with Bev
