Aren't we being led astray somewhat by the idea that conflict between natural and synthetic life, represented by Oh and Rizzo vs Soong and Sutra, is central and unavoidable? One of the subthemes of the season is the blending of technology and biology, in part represented by the presence of the Borg, but also by the lack of technology to save the Riker's son. It falls on different levels: will natural life and synthetic coexist socially and within one being?

I think that is the point of the show - not that we as viewers are being led astray into believing this a natural binary opposition, but that the characters themselves are. And given the message espoused by Picard himself so far, I imagine that finding a peaceful middle ground will be the endgame.

ETA I think Soji's mission was to find out if the mythical Zhat Vash actually exists and how much of an existential threat they are to the synth community.

As much as I've come to like Picard as a character, I don't want them to save him from his fate. It would take away all the emotional heft from Picard having to deal with his mortality, especially via Irumonic Syndrome.
So they’re going to drag his death out over 3 seasons?

44 pages? Yikes. Bit late to the party.

- Well, it was fantastic to see the borg cube regenerated in all it's glory... before they crashed it.

- At this juncture I'm hoping that dope of a Soong is actually Lore.

Anyway, now that we've finally unlocked the secret -- damn. They'd set the bar pretty high and the pay off - if that is really it - was underwhelming. I hope there's a fantastic twist hidden somewhere in all this, because right now, I'm not impressed. Up until I've enjoyed the series immensely and have been willing to give it's shortcomings a pass.

All hinges on next week, obviously.

Gave it a 7. Not impressed with the giant flowers, hippie androids, android mind melds, etc. A step in the wrong direction.

The concept of an intergalactic alliance of synthetics is cool, but why do they have to be evil?

The way the story is developing makes the Romulans look like the wise ones.

The teal orange space orchids... I wasn't impressed by Species 8472 either as being oh-so-bigger-than-the-ultimate-baddie-that-becomes-lame-quickly cliche.

And why must they be evil? Because there's drama to be milked from the audiencecow. There aren't many ways to sell "evil computer" anymore as it's not the 1960s anymore when every computer that wasn't the ship was evil.

As for Romulans, the show definitely avoided mentioning the whole empire and focusing on their being just one planet in order to hide the revelation they have a zillion ships amassed. I'm not sure if that method is more clever or stupid. Trying to hide a fleet as a double double bluff is potentially cool...

After such a lovely languorous pace this show has had, this episode had the Exposition Supersoaker feel of Discovery. I think it gave us a lot to absorb, and yet I felt a little underwhelmed. A lot will be hanging on the second half, something the franchise has not had a good track record with. I still like it overall: I was just expecting a little more nuance from the children of Soong.

I think both the Romulans and Synths/Sutra have misunderstood whatever the admonition is about. I suspect they will find that they are supposed to overcome their fear of each other. Sutra's interpretation is really just a justification for the Romulans to wipe out the synths as they really will bring down destruction if the trans galactic synths are contacted.

I suspect that hubris travels across the galaxy on the solar winds and only the openness and curiosity picard spoke of will really save them. The synths, too, have only fear and secrecy like the Romulans, so far.

I suppose it's either a super evil force trying to play organics against synths, so both must unite against it, or...
some test/ lesson by a higher race, intended to find out if organics and synths are willing to either work together, or to kill each other...

ETA: Ninja'd by @Gov Kodos !

Alternatively the Intergalactic Intelligence will just decide to wipe everyone out instead.

It could simply be a trap, as soon as any civilisation becomes advanced enough to create synthetic life the call is sent out and they come in and reset to zero.

It is a bit Reaperish.

...
So, Arilk Soong (who was never hinted at in TNG's S4 Ep. "Brothers" ; carries on his father's work with Bruce Maddox on a planet NO ONE knows about. <--- That's important because in the end they create Dahj and Soji for some 'Mission' (which BTW, beyond Soji claiming said mission was successful - no one states to the audience what it is...:wtf:

And, in the end, what is the result? Maddox is killed (BTW - If Maddox was working with Soong on this Android Lab sanctuary; WHY did he leave and have to make a deal/take a loan from a very cutthroat criminal (Bejeyzal) so he could set up another secret ladb - which somehow the Zhat Vash or Tal Shiar found and dissolved; and Maddox somehow escaped to Freecloud, and would have been killed either by Bejezal or The Zhat Vash...again...:wtf:)

Lol - the more I go over the story/plot as presented so far - the LESS sense it makes...

In the end, the ONLY thing Soji's 'mission' seems to have accomplished is to reveal the location of Soong's android lab to the Zhat Vash. (Oh, and BTW - where are the trademark red lightning storms that are supposed to be sooo common yet unique; the world can be singled out from the billions Star Fleet and the Romulans have explored over their centuries of spacefaring abilities?)
...
And now, we have this 'Godlike Synth Alliance' that supposedly watches everything - YET - they somehow need to be summoned before they'll help their fellow Synth survive and 'evolve'... Yeah, 'godlike'...not.
...
B) If Oh instead orders they be detained; then she takes custody of them - the Zhat Vash could DOWNLOAD the exact location of their Homeworld - or hell Vandermir and Rios could have found that out if they were allowed to complete the process - then Oh could have told the Zhat Vash - and the planet would have been destroyed 14 year earlier.

Not sure what Jana's and Beautiful Flower's mission was. I guess reconnaissance? Though they could have simply asked Soong about the Federation. Good for the androids that Oh and the Zhat Vash are kind of stupid and simply ordered them killed instead of being captured for further information gathering.

Maddox said before his death that he sent Dahj and Soji out to find the truth about the reasons for the synth ban. I guess Soji's mission was successful in this regard because they know now about the Zhat Vash and Commodore Oh. Though I don't know if it was so smart to purge their minds for it. They didn't know this way what happened to Jana and Beautiful Flower and couldn't prepare themselves for the danger. And they didn't even get properly rid of dangerous information in their minds like where their homeworld is. For allegedly so smart Synths they acted kind of stupid.

This of course doesn't explain why Maddox needed to go to bed with the Tal Shiar and Bejezal just for an android lab? Why not stay with Soong on that pretty android planet? He had everything he wanted to have there.

And really where were the big red lightning storms? Maybe they ran out of CGI budget? :p

And this super andvanced synth alliance seems kind of stupid. Seemingly the message circle close to those 8 suns were the only one the Federation, Romulans, etc. have heard of so far. So they are only there for androids who find this specific one? What about Control? Or the numerous androids which appeared in TOS? None worth saving because they didn't find that message circle? If they are so concerned about artificial life how about leaving some probes behind which inform them about new artifical life which needs protection?

Yeah, the Admonition doesn't make much sense the way it's been told so far by the Romulans or Sutra. Synths wouldn't exist without organics and there's no reason the two can not be blended like the Borg or Soong's latest science project. There are also the other AI intelligences developed in the Federation and the rest of the galaxy like Holograms and such. The fear factor just sounds more like fear mongering than fact.

I'm still confused about one thing. Apologies if it has been covered.

How does Soji's face evoke "Destroyer"? How can the admonition predict what the face of a sentient synth will look like centuries later?

Did Oh add her own gravy to the mind-meld when Data's face appears?

The hippy dippy synth colony also doesn't seem to care or even notice what ships or whole borg cubes get taken in by their defense flower thingies...
