Well, I actually quite liked this episode and I even enjoyed it more than last week's. I do have a few issues / questions. I'm not quite sure why Maddox left and what Soji's mission was. And some scenes felt abrupt, like things were cut and didn't have enough room to breathe. I think this episode should have been 50-55 minutes like the previous few were. I also don't understand why Picard said Hugh resorted to Brutality. Was this because he had a plan to take back the cube before he died? I got a very TNG vibe from parts of his episode, and again, Picard really felt like Picard to me. I'm going to give this a 7 for now.

Yup. Plus, it's supposedly been done before on Trek, so your criticism is completely invalid.

I'm not criticizing anybody. They obviously have bigger fish to fry than some inept one-time murderer. The Romulans are coming, and also, apparently, an ancient Extragalactic Federation of Synths.

Dukat did infinitely worse than Jurati when it came to harming other people and Dukat has a following that thinks the character wasn't really evil. I'd say Agnes Jurati is faring pretty well for a supporting character in a Trek series who kills someone and then seeks to be forgiven of their crime.

Also, Agnes is emotionally tortured by what she did, repented and turned herself in to face consequences.

Dukat is a sociopath who even when he was an ally never admitted to any responsibility.

I wonder just where the fuck they're going with this, and I can't wait for next week to find out. They're obviously telegraphing a sabotage of the golem by Agnes, the question is in what way. I have a feeling that the idea of Picard becoming an android might be a red herring. It would be against Picard's character to cheat death like that, so if they do it Agnes would have to do it against his will. I think they might use the golem to restore Data somehow, with Picard essentially sacrificing his chance at surviving death to gove Data a second chance at life. At the eleventh hour, Q pops in, tells Picard thatthe trial is over, and cures his Irumodic Syndrome. I don't know, just spitballing.

In fairness to Dukat, he was a legit Cardassian patriot. His final meeting with Damar, for instance, which is about the last time he was non-psycho. He was mostly wrong about what was good for Cardassia, though.

On second watch, this episode is even better.
-Seven to play a big part in saving the galaxy. Picard handed over the reins to her.
-Sutra is Big Bad Destroyer that Zhat Vash were afraid of
-Ramdha and Seven and the Borg Cube will play huge role in finale. They were definitely repairing it when Picard left them, especially defensive systems
-Soji will save the day in the end. Riker and co. will definitely play a part
-I get the feeling we may not even known who the super duper synth aliens are anyway since they will be stopped before they fully appear.

This episode was a 10 for me on first watch. It’s even better on second watch. It’s definitely a setup for the finale, but everything in this episode will pay off at the end.

Some of the Androids were played by the same guy who played F-8 and the other Mars Synth, right?

Doesn't look like it. F8 and the other Mars synths (A500s) were all played by Alex Diehl. The two male Soong-types (Rune and Codex) were played by twins Mike and Matt Perfetuo. They're all bald guys.

I wonder if someone will do a follow up to this episode to see all the synths shown to show progression from pure Data type to pure Soji type, with all the variations/stepping stones in between.

hmmm...I’m mixed on it.

It’s got some interesting ideas and setups...I just dunno if they will stick the landing.

I kinda hate the idea of son of Soong. I think a somewhat corrupted “Synth” Data would have had more dramatic impact. I hate to play this card, but wouldnt Data and Lore have known and mentioned him before.

given that there are two different interpretations of the vision, I gotta think there is something in the middle that is yet to be discovered.

the show is supposed to go 3 seasons right. If so, there is no way they are going to have Picard slowly dying for the next two. Either some magic synth cure will be found or they will make him an android.

The more I think about it the more I’m kinda frustrated by it.

really hope they stick the landing.
