I don't think Narek is Zhat Vash. I think he was already working in the Borg cube and had access to Soji and since he has a personal connection with Narissa, Narissa simply recruited him to help with her mission.
I never got the zealot vibe from Narek like I did with Narissa.

Starfleet is going to have to identify and purge all the Zhat Vash operatives.

Will be interesting to see the Tal Shiar Fleets intentions, I assume they are not friendly and acting on Zhat Vash orders without knowing it.

I wonder what the majority of the Tal'Shiar will think when they find out that the Zhat Vash was behind the attack on Mars and the collapse of the rescue plan.

Its the perfect opportunity to bring back Laris and Zhaban.

Maybe there is a small plot hole. The Zhat Vash inititiation took place 14 years prior, Rhamda was there and Oh and Rizzo too. There is a scene where Rizzo is talking to Rhamda and she says if it had not been her ship sent, it would have been hers.
The sign that indicated it had been nearly 16 years since an assimilation had occured aboard that vessel and Soji mentioned that Rhamda was aboard the last ship the cube assimilated before it was disconnected from the collective. The knowledge Rhamda had could explain why the cube was disconnected, but since it does not seem like Rhamda has a twin so the timeline is off. I am just curious if anyone else noticed.

A previous episode said the Borg have been in stasis for 14 years. So I think maybe it was the sign that’s wrong.

Alright so what do we have here... A bit of last minute exposition dump before next two weeks finales.. "We are Borg..." awesome shit! Borg cube has fully regenerated plus Rizzo conveniently got rid off all the pesky drones. Elnor with Annika (let's use the name Seven for when she is her Borg queen persona) are now in command of a fully functional Borg Cube! Wonder where they will go ;)
The Romulan fleet is heading out to destroy Soji's homeworld, La Sirena is heading that way too. Federation fleet is heading to DS12, I guess away from all the action? So exciting to see what will happen next... Great shit right here!

Good episode. Lot's of character development. Here are some thoughts before I go back to the many pages already written:
  • The opinion that will get me slammed: Nothing Seven of Nine did was something Hugh could not have done. It feels like Hugh's death was solely for the purpose of bringing back Jeri Ryan.
  • ACTING! At least two great Picard speeches. Where's the optimism? Picard is the optimism. (Take that, haters!)
  • Intellectually, it makes sense that Soji would still have problems with trust. However, it seems like a script oversight that Picard would not have informed Soji of the plan before leaving Nepenthe.
  • Bringing Jurati back to the light was a serious U-turn, but it was (mostly) successful. I think it was a great idea that Soji would be the vehicle for regaining respect, but I think that Rios and Raffi should still have doubts.
  • Asa Briones has been great in the last three episodes. I get her earlier acting choices better now that I know where the character is going. However, if someone puts your character's favorite food on the table, look like you want to gobble it all down.
  • Raffi psychoanalyzing the Rios holograms was funny. Rios' backstory really needed more time to play out.
  • All the stuff on the cube could have been a separate episode.
  • Sorry, but every time I hear of Commodore Oh, I think the Story of O.
And finally, we know you weren't going to put any Deep Space Nine into the series. But don't tease us ... by ... saying ... things ... really ... slowly ... to ... force ... us ... to ... anticipate.

ETA: I loved that Picard couldn't work the 3-D controls. Jadzia could, JL!

I agree. Jeri Ryan is a better known actress and Seven is more well known and beloved character. So yeah, the writers just wanted an excuse to bring Jeri Ryan back. Obviously, Hugh could have plugged in to the Borg cube too but having Seven do it and become a Borg Queen was a great WTF moment. So it is obvious why the writers wanted Jeri Ryan back.

And that's OK...a two-time guest character was used to serve the story of a returning series regular.

However, it seems like a script oversight that Picard would not have informed Soji of the plan before leaving Nepenthe.
Which plan did he not inform her of? Going to find her planet seems to have been the plan when they were leaving Nepenthe last episode. Taking Jurati to DS12 only came up when they returned to the ship and he found out what had been happening there.

Contacting Star Fleet and going to the nearest Starbase: these were things that Picard commanded before knowing about Jurati.

Although I suspect that Seven will help the xBs that survived. Maybe they will still control the Borg cube just not as a Borg collective
Didn't seem like there could be all that many Xb's left.
Seven's hologram of the Cube didn't show anymore lifeform dots at the end.

Anybody else think that Jean-Luc sent off another communique to Clancy about the change in plans?

He knows she's sending the squadron to DS-12 and he must have had the time to do so.

I actually think it was a better choice for Seven to take the control of the cube instead of Hugh.

There's a reason why they are called 'Borg Queen'. Plus... when she was a Borg, she was much closer to the inner part of the Collective, for lack of a better term. Hugh was just a regular drone.

Besides, given how close he was with the xBs, I don't think he would have wanted to do it. It would mean making them Borg again... something Seven was very hesitant of at first. Sometimes it's better for a stranger or someone more objective to take the reigns of a situation... like if you are a doctor, you have a different doctor operate on your child.

There were a bunch of xBs that jumped on Narissa and were beating her up right before she beamed out.
Yeah, but there were a lot more before she gunned half of them down during that fight. :techman:

Everybody is speculating heavily about the Tkon Empire, what if it was the Iconians?

As an aside, the sound seemed mixed much better this week than in the past.

I mean, I've taken to watching episodes on the bus in the morning when going to work. I've had to turn on closed captioning in the past because it was impossible to hear all the dialogue over the loud music and ambient sound. But everything came across crisp and clear this week.

6 — connective tissue between episodes, setting the table for the finale. those are fine but all the reveals were drama-free. connecting rios to the synth story just makes the world small and his character a story device rather than a real person. the borg storyline was rushed and should’ve had a lot more impact than it did, especially with seven hooking herself back up to the borg, even briefly.

best scene was soji and picard talking about data. after last week’s steady, thoughtful exploration of the plot through the characters’ psychologies, this one is jarringly hollow.

“Data’s capacity for expressing and processing emotion was limited. I suppose we had that in common.” (Picard)

Soji and the compass... aww!

Also, did she speak of her sisters and brothers? That reminded me of my theory of months ago that maybe (unknowingly) Narek was a synth, and the brother he lost was his twin... OK, crackpot theory.

I think there comes a point where one starts to become way too critical, just because one can.

I thought this episode played out really great, hitting all the right notes with perfect emphasis on all the players.

Just how much autonomy do the Zhat Vash have? Because I highly doubt the Romulan Praetor, Senate, or even the Tal Shiar will willingly fund the Zhat Vash to doom their own homeworld over a fairytale.
