More on Oh & Clancy.

Oh told Clancy Picard was full of crap about a Romulan incursion. If Clancy buys Picard's version, she knows, at best, Oh sucks at her job. At worst, she has to be under suspicion, especially being half-Romulan.

Not the kind of person I'd give a squadron of ships to.

Does Clancy know Oh is half-Romulan? Oh is an embedded agent, embedded from as far back as Data's discovery in 2338. We know from Simon Tarses that genetic Romulan descendants can pass themselves off as Vulcan to scans.

and he convinced Clancy to send the fleet, even if she did tell him to shut the fuck up again. :rommie:
That was the first time we've seen. Previously she accused him of sheer fucking hubris.

He's such a lovable little berserker.
I'd say he's the exact opposite of a berserker...a very focused and disciplined warrior. He's more of a samurai/ninja hybrid.

OK, just watched that scene and the present-day scene after...I misremembered that it was Clancy who took his resignation. He apparently talked to an unspecified group. Nevertheless, Picard often gets mischaracterized as having quit when he could have stayed and made a difference. Playing the resignation card was his attempt at a corbomite solution to keep the evacuation going, and it blew up in his face. He outright tells Raffi that he never thought they'd actually take his resignation.

Was Admiral Owen Paris the Starfleet C-in-C at the time of VOY's finale? If so I wonder if Clancy succeeded him in the post and she's been in the job since around the time that Picard resigned.

And meanwhile, back on the cube, Seven came to the rescue and got a big hug from Elfwich. He's such a lovable little berserker.

He is and thank you for the adorable descriptor!

All right, had some time to digest, and I still like the episode, though I think the amount of exposition drags a bit more on a second viewing.

Trying to give Narissa some depth at the 11th hour was too little, too late for me (especially since she's back to "lol sadism" like three minutes later). I am honestly just bored with her by this point, and a bit pissy that she ain't dead yet. But the reveal of the Admonition and the ceremony itself were very well done, and the aftermath skin-crawling in a way Trek usually isn't. Right up there with the ceti eels.

Still v. upset about Hugh's death, and moreso after watching Del Arco's appearance on The Ready Room. And it's the "blame the writers" mode of upset, not the "blame the villain" (because, again, weak villain), which is never fun. Just not a fan of all the minor 90's era Trek cameos winding up as grist for the mill.

Loved Raffi running around and putting all the pieces together, and her realization of "Wow, I was right all along, and it's the worst thing ever" was really well done. Also, her interaction with the nav holo was the most adorable moment of the night. But I'd probably react that way too if Michelle Hurd called me her favorite anything and gave me a smooch. :)

Rios' story was horrifying, if maybe a little swamped by all the rest of the exposition in this ep. Still, the tagline of how his captain must have known they were synths or he wouldn't have been able to go through with it... that is the coldest of comforts when it comes to his mentor's memory, and none at all when it's a matter of his own complicity. Harsh stuff and Cabrera did a great job with it.

I reaaaaaallllly didn't believe Agnes for a moment. She murdered her lover and mentor because she believed so deeply in this horror she'd been shown, but the moment she sees Soji, she's over it? Nah. I expect the character is sincere, but the circumstances mean I'm not feeling it.

I wasn't punched in the feels by Soji and Picard's conversation the way I was with those between Picard and Data in the Ten-Forward dream, or even some of the early interactions with Dahj, were Jean-Luc was equally (if not more) compassionate and supportive to a frightened young woman. I feel it was objectively good, but maybe I'm just a little burned out on the more obvious plucking of heartstrings by this point.

Of course, I say that, but I was also a puddle on the floor when Elnor hugged Seven (and was put in a down/stay when Seven hugged him back and actually offered the poor guy a moment of comfort). Maybe I'm just not connecting with Soji this ep, dunno.

Borg stuff. Loving it. Loving Seven in her galactic lioness of justice incarnation. I hope Elnor stays with her, tbh. They could have some fun adventures together and Picard has already decided which of his kids he likes more re:

Yep, not even a line from him about how Elnor and Hugh were doing. Elnor in particular is very young and Picard was massively irresponsible in exploiting someone who has arguably 200 years of Romulan life left in him.

Yes, this. Really, I don't hold it against Picard. This is a big cast to juggle for a relatively short season, and there's only room for so much per episode. But it really seems like Elnor's had way more positive reactions toward Seven than Jean-Luc since he stepped into this adventure, he obviously admires her, and Seven is way more alone than Picard is. She could use a puppy with a sword, just sayin'.

All in all? Solid episode and good viewing. Am I hyped for the finale? Not as much as I hoped I would be. Still very interested in the central mystery, but not very attached to Soji, the character who's the face of it. So, 7/10 for me.

But why should she? Being deliberately rude to Picard doesn't have any costs that I can see.
Starfleet is a professional organisation, whilst at the head of it you conduct yourself with decorum, when matters of Federation security are at hand, you treat that information with objectivity. Having cheap political quarrels instead is just not at the races.
