Star Trek: Phase II's "The Holiest Thing" - Delayed

Oh I agree, but the name change demonstrates a lack of interest in the whole Phase II idea.

Possibly - maybe from an internal perspective; the filmmakers wanted to keep their show closer to TOS rather than move forward towards the films?? Is the modified ship being kept??

I remember about a decade ago when Phase II was announced I loved it; they were still completing the five year mission but bringing to life the legendary lost series making it feel less like a what if. Lt Xon was finally aboard the Enterprise, we finally saw Kitumba and the original Child, unused uniforms made it to the screen, the ship was beginning a slow refit. Even though it was written for TNG 'Blood and Fire' opened the new package.

Now a lot has changed even though the series is still running it seems the plan has changed which is a pity.

There's a big identity crisis going on with this project. New Voyages/Phase II just can't decide what it wants to be. On a certain level, I enjoy that about it because it keeps the show largely unpredictable. But this identity crisis of "Should we be TOS 2.0?" or "Should we be the Lost Era?" or "Should we be TOS all over again to compete with Continues?" does get tiresome, but its nothing new.

Absolutely, at least most of the stories are good, I like fanwank and they are definitely not a 'pew pew' group

That said, how many full episodes have they done where there isn't a space battle of some sort? To date: one.
  1. Come What May? Yes.
  2. In Harm's Way? Yep. Yep. Yeppity yep yep yep.
  3. To Serve All My Days? Yep.
  4. Blood and Fire? Yep.
  5. World Enough and Time? Yep.
  6. Enemy Starfleet? Pew pew pew!
  7. The Child? Nope, albeit they fire phasers at the alien probe thingus.
  8. Kitumba? Yessiree.
  9. Mind Sifter? Even that one...

Out of all the work they've done, the two I've enjoyed the most were "Come What May" (it was unique at the time) and "Mind Sifter". The rest I have no real desire to ever see again.

We have an enormous number of fanwanker, pew-pew-pew lovers as our supporters. We try to toss them a bone. (Not every Trek fan is as dramatically sophisticated as TrekBBS members.)

We will stop changing our focus when the dynamics surrounding us (other fan films, Paramount movies, and now CBS series) stop changing. Also, our series' focus is driven solely and unilaterally by one man as our Senior Executive Producer. It's his baby.

"The Holiest Thing" is fully completed. I watched it its entirety a few days ago--and as late as last night. James is just trying to figure out when to throw the switch and make it publically available. Recent developments in fan filmdom are the kind of external factors that affect our decision-making. I will let everyone know when and where you can watch it when we throw the switch.

Yes but its not gratuitous - at least all of the Episodes have a story behind them. Also the cgi is beautiful but it has never been the main selling point of NV/Phase II like some shows; for some people the main thing is the ship shots.

For me it's more characters, story - from a design angle I'm more interested in uniform and interior design!!

I've got to say I've enjoyed New Voyages a good deal more than I enjoy STC.

Yes, even the pew-pew-pew!

I like 'em all as much as I hate 'em all, for all the same reasons. New Voyages had a really good return to form with Mind-Sifter, after several (in my opinion) duds like Kitumba and Enemy: Starfleet. Eagerly looking forward to The Holiest Thing!

The best of the lot has always been "World Enough and Time," even though I have squabbles with aspects of the story.

In terms of pew pew, "Enemy: Starfleet" was the worst of the lot with the endless pewing throughout the episode. "Blood and Fire" is a close second with the pointless battle in the first part.

I will say this, even though a lot of their stories are flawed in a various ways, I have enjoyed NEW VOYAGES. In fact, I prefer James Cawely as Kirk than I do Brian Gross. While Gross looks the part, he doesn't seem to own the screen in a way the role demands.

I'm a massive fan but I have to agree
  1. Come What May? no real story but this completely hooked me in and it's a real nostyalgia piece for me now.
  2. In Harm's Way? Following on from no less than 3 episodes the scope is incredible in terms of plot, time, space etc - like a movie really enjoyable.
  3. To Serve All My Days? Despite having Walter giving a gfantastic performance and a script by DC Fontana I can't help but feel let down by this ??
  4. World Enough and Time? Really was settled with the cast by this point (I miss Jeff Quinn as Spock!) really great script, acting, direction all round
  5. Blood and Fire? Great meaningful story, still as poingnant today as it would have been if made in the 1980s
  6. Enemy Starfleet? Really enjoyed this one. I like how it referred to Blood and Fire in the teaser, like a a little arc going on
  7. The Child? Very good episode
  8. Kitumba? i loved loved this! Read about this in the Reeves-Stevenses book years ago. Glad to see it brought to life. EPIC.
  9. Mind Sifter? Great first episode for Gross. Enjoyed the Guardian and Kor returns

I haven't watched anything past Blood & Fire yet, but I've enjoyed all of the episodes to some degree. They aren't perfect, but they are still solid, enjoyable productions.

Any update on this episode's release?

. . .

Thanks for the update. Hopefully you folks are in touch with CBS and will get a "green light".
