Star Trek passings

Just found that Frank Atienza died in 2018, age of 80. Played a kohn villager in TOS 'The Omega Glory'. This brings TOS passings to 333 that I'm aware of.
I gotta be honest, I have certain doubts in researching his death, if this was even the same guy who died. There are more than one individuals with that name, and I kind of got the feeling that someone saw the name and a death date and attributed it to him, mostly because the birthday doesn't match up with birthdate I found for the guy I was quite certain was him.

Everywhere I've found online, he's listed as having died, not just Imbd or memory alpha. Many people fudge their birth date in order to make themselves appear younger.

Found that Karlotta Nelson passed away June of 2013, age of 70. She played a Bajoran civilian and Bajoran minister on DSN's episode 'Profit and Lace' and 'The Siege'.

William Dennis Hunt passed away June of 2020, age of 76. He played 'Huraga' in DSN's episode 'The Way of the Warrior'.

Betty Hankins passed away February, 2016, age of 71. She played an 'advisor' in DSN's episode 'Homefront'.

Today I watched TNG's 'Half a Life', guest starring David Ogden Stiers and Majel Barrett.
I think this might have been the first time I watched this episode since both David and Majel passed away. Somehow I found it hard to try to enjoy this episode. Eventually over time there will be even more people that have been in Star Trek and are no longer with us. Why is it so hard to accept? Might I have to keep myself away from latest Star Trek news so there will be no more sad news involving the actors?

It's one thing to miss them, and the fact that they will never provide us with new portrayals and new roles. It's something else altogether to be so consumed with their passing that you cannot enjoy the roles they did have, the portrayals they did provide. Rewatch the episode. Enjoy it for what it is, which is two craftspersons giving us the best they have to offer of their craft. That they have both since passed from this world plays no role in what they did onscreen in that episode.

I like to or at least try to think that when some particular episode was filmed the actors were very much alive.

Think of it this way...

"He's not really dead. As long as we remember him."
Dr. McCoy, STAR TREK II: THE WRATH OF KHAN

In that sense, being on screen and seen, they are remembered. And as long as devices exist that allow us to see their roles, they are not gone. They are immortal, in a sense.

Cuauhtemoc Sanchez passed away August of 2020. He played a Bajoran Crewman on DSN's episode 'Shadows and Symbols'.

Ryan MacDonald passed away February of 2020, age of 89. He played a shopkeeper in Voyager's episode 'Time and Again'.

Rod Perry passed away Dec. 2020, age of 86. He played a security guard in ST:TMP.

Ilona Wilson passed away Sept. 2008, age of 75. She played a bar patron on Nimbus III in Star Trek V: The Final Frontier

Wow very sad and at a fairly young age. He's the last of the major stand-in / extras with the exception of William Blackburn.

Eddie Paskey has passed, 3 days short of his 82nd birthday.
stared in 58 of the 79 episodes. Was a stand in for Shatner, and a hand double for James Doohan.

Rest in Peace

Douglas Alan Shanklin passed away March of 2020, age of 68. He played a prison guard in Star Trek III: The Search for Spock. You'd recognize him with his moustache and comm earpiece. I've also found several other actors who have passed - David Lander in 2020; Clay Hodges in 2019; Alan Gibbs in 1988; Jon Horback in 2015; Garret Sato in 2020.
