Star Trek passes 8 Million DVDs Sold

I was reading an article on SKY NEWS about Amazon who enjoyed a good boost in sales over the last 3 months of 2009 and they reported the top 5 sellers for the website...

STAR TREK (DVD) 5th most sold item for Amazon in that time :techman:

I wonder if TREK's four Oscar nominations will help the already great DVD sales become even better. Normally Oscar nods and announcements boost home video sales for movies out of theatrical circulation and sell a lot more tickets for those still on the big screen.

I doubt it will effect it that much. It's only nominated in the technical categories which don't get much press.

Trek jumped up from #9 on the BD chart back up to #5 last week.

Week 1 - #1

Week 3 - #3
Week 4 - #4
Week 5 - #6
Week 6 - No Data

Best Buy is featuring Star Trek in an commercial for TVs. How's that for popularity?

THAT one caught me by surprise. I could hear the music from the living room and I was wondering why I could hear the main theme to Trek XI months after the Blu-ray release, walk into the living room and it's a Best Buy commercial for televisions! I was excited. :D
Until the iPad took over their homepage, Apple featured their new iMacs with a gorgeous shot of the Enterprise, with the "Star Trek is available on iTunes" message. It's still strange to see Trek at places like Best Buy and Apple...it's supposed to stay hidden here on the BBS!

Good staying power though. And it is still playing at my IMAX!

So I might go yet again before they replace it with Avatar once the main chains let it go.

Well, even the iPad commercial shows clips from Star Trek, so I'm happy!
