Star Trek vs Star Wars:

Attack of the Clones: 10,500,000 (21wks on chart)
Revenge of the Sith: 9,850,000 (10wks)
Star Trek: 8,059,000 (8wks)
The Phantom Menace: 8,265,000 (31wks)

SWEET! Nice to see these sales numbers...TREK is not only back, but back with a vengeance!:techman: :bolian:

To be fair, there was much less market penetration when the other films were released, significantly so especially with TPM..

Not so with Sith and Clones though, both of which were released at the peak of DVD popularity!

Yeah, that's true for Sith, but not really for Attack of the Clones.

Even in 2002, DVD sales were less than 50% of what they were last year and there had only be about 50+ million players sold at that point (it's around 300 million now).

In any case, Star Trek's sales numbers are good.

Also, TPM's first release on disc didn't come until the spring or summer of 2001...well over a full year after the movie first hit the home-video market on VHS. By that time most people who were gonna rush to get the movie had already done so and the Big Surge was over.

How many copies did the Star Wars Original Trilogy sell (released in 2004)? I think that would be a more apt comparison.

Those numbers are quite impressive. More so considering there has likely been tens of millions of illegal downloads from people who didn't purchase the movie.

Star Trek is still in the Top 10 for Blu-Ray sales, actually moving up from #9 to #6 last week.

It's pretty much assured of being THE best-selling STAR TREK-related DVD to date in any respect...movie or television series.

So what negative thing can be said about this that will move the goalposts back even further? :p
