Star Trek: Online

Really? That'S why you stop playing? PvP can be a nice distraction once in awhile and it's a form of socialzing. But the reason to play Star Trek Online has never been the PvP content. All the other content is really awesome. Even the klingons get some cool stories now.

Hey everyone. I have a question:
I bought this game when it first came out. It wasn't bad, but I didn't renew the subscription after the 30-day trial ran out. I just found that the game got boring after a while.

I know now that there is a lot of new content and updates, as well as new ships, characters, etc. I am considering buying one of those 60-day game cards and trying it out again.

To those who have the game today, would you consider the changes and new content to be worth trying the game again?

^ Well, all he tells me is that his people need help and when I can ask the general "who are your people" and he tells me that what sector their world is in.

Your character needs to be at least Level 10 (ie Lt10 or above) to do the new weekly missions. Just FYI.

If you only played during the first few weeks of release (ie around 2/2/2010) - then yes, there have been A LOT of good changes and feature additions across the board; and a lot of new content (including the Diplomatic corps. missions). They've also squashed a lot of old bugs; done a decent ship powers balancing pass, and got the major bugs introduced with the season 2.0 update under control; and added 6 levels to the character cap. (it's now 51 and opposed to 45 at launch). If you thought the game was too easy they also added a difficulty setting:

Normal - the base difficuty the original game had

Advanced - Slightly higher, and you have a possible death penalty (BO's injured/ship system damage you have to repair with components, or going back to a major Starbase)

Elite - same DP as with 'Advanced' - MOBs harder then advanced.

All that said, it depends what you found boring with the game. If it was just you ran out of missions, or found the game to easy - you might give it another go and just up the difficulty. I've been playing since day one; and honestly it has become a much better game since then,so IMO, I would say it's worth another look, but I've liked it and seen the potential it has since beta.

Interesting. It's good to see the new content.
I just found the game too repetitive. The missions seemed to be, "destroy enemy squadron 1/5" and kill half a dozen ships. Repeat 5 times. Then beam down to the planet. Destroy enemy troops 1/5 and so on. Just a lot of clicking on the phaser button.

I'm glad to see that there is a lot added to the STO universe though.

I'm just getting into the game but can see how that becomes an issue. I think upping the difficulty level should force one to play smarter.
I'm finding the space battles to be varied enough. Essentially yes, it's phasering the shields down, and lobbing in torpedoes, while using your other abilities to maximum effect. But different ships move differently. With some its hard to bring my ship around and get those torpedoes off. Some have started using science abilities against me.
My impression of STO is that it is better in shorter to moderate sessions, and like any computer game, a lot of the fun can be in how it's played.
I do wish the "kill/scan" five things was more varied.

When you're on, CaptainStoner, look me up sometime. Akarian@Sarek2165 (my Vice Admiral) or Montgomery@Sarek2165 (my Lt. Commander).

Yes! Challenging battles, like the battle to take down the Crystalline Entity, are bloody hard, and heaps of fun! The standard fights are the definition of boring.

Question: how do I play my 30 day trial without buying a time card or entering a credit card? I am goingto buy a new copy of the game (they don't sell the time cards at my local store) and I remember I got it to work before. I just can't remember how. How did I do it?

You don't. You have to enter some method of payment, but they then credit you 30 days right up front. So, for example, if you use a credit card you will get your free thirty days. Then, only at the END of that thirty days do they actually use the CC information to pay for the next 30 days. If you remove the CC info before that, you just get your 30 days.

So I have my "recurring 1 month" subscription with PayPal. So if I click "cancel subscription", I should still have my 30 free days, right?

And, done.
I ever ordered myself a bundle of Cryptic points, so I can buy some bridges and ships and stuff!

Do remember, that they won't delete your account if it expires in a month. You can go back to it later and re-up right where you left off.
