Is it just me or has today's patch added a waiting period between doing the same defend missions within 15 minutes?

It's been like that for a while, since before Season 2.

Some of my better screenies, some a bit old.

So I'm at Earth Spacedock last night, about to refit my ship, and a Klingon appears and kills the Ensign you speak to, and one other. No one could attack the Klingon. Although it was funny, and I got in a "you klingon bastard", I can't help but wonder what the hell is up with this game? Has it been hacked by Klingons? A developer having some fun? A stupidly implemented mission?

At this point I feel the exploration missions are the weakest link. Since there are no actual star systems in STO, there's not much to explore. You often don't even need to move about on exploration - as soon as you leave the planet you're at, the game prompts you to enter another unexplored system at the exact same location. Replicate 10 of something, scan some gorgons, scan some plantlife, kill some orions. That's about it where the final frontier is concerned.
I still find the game enjoyable, but have to remind myself that this game isn't about space exploration, or a realistic interactive universe. It's a Star Trek themed MMO, as such it's pretty good.

The Klingon player was originally stuck on a ground PvP map due to a bug and requested GM assistance to move him off of the map. He was sent to ESD, though it hasn't been stated if that was due to a bug with the software on the studio's end or of it was merely an accident in choosing the wrong location. The game's executive producer Daniel Stahl addressed the situation on the official forums. Whatever the specific cause was, it was a mistake, rather than intentional. Apparently the Klingon also killed Admiral Quinn and the tailor, among others (for example, according to one of his own posts, he went to Starbase 39-Sierra and killed Admiral T'Nae, saying that T'Nae and Quinn were the only Starfleet NPCs who knew how to fight well). The NPCs respawned a short while after being killed.

:rommie: So this was an isolated incident? It was pretty funny. Several PC's unholstered weapons in futile attempts to fire. I also scanned him to no effect. After he killed the two engineering ensigns, I said "You klingon bastard!" , and he looks at my character and says, "wut?", then vanishes. Definitely an MMO moment.
Wish I'd thought to take a screenshot.

I saw it happen once. The Klingon showed up as an ally, although the NPCs were going to town on her. I was setting down shield and medical generators, cover shields, etc. Everyone there had a good laugh.

Happens in lots of MMOs. There was a guy once from City of Villains who got moved wrong and ended up in Atlas Park, the starting area for heroes. Eventually a GM showed up as one of the signature villains, made an in-character big deal about retrieving him, then killed him. :)

:guffaw:

Screenshots, eh? All you have to do is ask. There are more here. And here one player gets hilariously angry over the mistake (dstahl's statement is at the end of that thread).

Anyone started the third mission with the Breen?
Yeah, I've done it. It was an entirely non-combat mission. It was shorter than the other two so far, but I still enjoyed it very much.

I will start it tomorrow. if it is short, I may have enough time to finish it in one session. No combat would be welcome, as a change.

Oh, I forgot to mention previously that there's now a daily diplomatic mission in the Orellius Sector Block as well. Essentially, you have to intercept a Breen patrol that's taking Deferi slavers and figure out a way to save the Deferi captives. It can become combat but doesn't have to end in battle. Also, Ambassador Jiro Sugihara now has some thoughts on the Deferi/Breen situation that you can discuss while you're in that sector. It'll be on the right-hand side of the screen.

Quick info: I just figured out what the dam Snow Tuber from the Deferi mission are useful for. I had them in my inventory together with a high level tribble [mat]. and imagine my surprise when that produced the special cryo tribble! And that after i complained that a "snow tribble" would have been a much better reward than those useless tuber things! lol

never figured out the tribble breeding thing. I've got a bunch of regular, boring tribbles. What do i do with them?

I'm not entirely sure. But apparently if you give them certain kinds of food, they will breed a new kind. You can get some really good ones that way, but I don't know what the proper combinations are.
