Star Trek: Online

It's just my style of role-play, Timelord. I like Starfleet as well and the Klingons are cool, but when I play Armada or SF: Command, I always favour the Romulans. My favourite episodes are ones with Romulans in them and I've always seen them as more threatening than even the Borg. What can I say? Maybe I'm a treachorously evil Romulan at heart. :D

So when the devs say that they're thinking about splitting the RSE into 3, just so that they can start giving Romulans Fed and Klingon content. It's the easy way out for them and it makes me think we're not going to see a good playable Romulan faction.

Hopefully this was just an idle thought from Dan and doesn't represent the ultimate goal of the development team.

I'm very happy right now playing as a Commander level 3. Thinking about starting a KDF character soon. What I really want for them are hunting missions, where we can participate in hunting down giant monsters.

The foundry will take care of that. It will be the biggest content asset the KDF has. The one Foundry mission the KDF has is leaps and bounds better written than every official mission. Storywise it can be improved but some of the fans have more talent for writing dialog.

I just finished playing a foundry mission for the first time. And yes, you're right, the dialogue was by far the best I've read in the game so far.

Servers are getting hammered again. Wouldn't be surprised if they have another crash.

Yep; what's happening is, so many people are hitting the servers, they're running out of memory before the load balancer can move the processes off to another server. Since they're using Windows (yuck), this causes a graphical popup that consumes more resources, so they have to remote in (which uses more resources) and acknowledge those popups to free resources.

As has happened so often with this game, they spent all week adding new hardware and updating load balancer configs so they could handle the anticipated traffic, and it hit yet another new record beyond their predictions. I guess "lots more people playing your game" is a good problem to have, but it'd be nice if once in a while they actually exceeded demand in one of these instances. :)

Are you sure? Because in that case some bean counters probably say: "You wasted money on those extra servers, there were not nearly needed to their full capacity. We need to fire people now to get that money back!" ;)

The Horta is sooo cool, but I thought the Horta were a 'highly intelligent creature with impeccable taste'. They're sentient, not pets! :D

Just started redoing the "Mine Enemy" mission and took the opportunity to properly explore the map (and read the logs). Didn't see the bit with the Horta on my first play through.

There's a side room in the base that leads into a Horta birthing chamber :) None of the main objectives force you to go there, so unless you decided to go explore the area on your own, you won't encounter it.

I'm sorry if this has been asked a hundred times before but I've just gone to VA1 and apparently cant get any more skill points for my character they go to the bridge officers or something. any ways I've heard that to get the 'posh' stuff I need to get emblems or something where do I get these?. Again sorry if this has been asked before.

oh just one more thing even though I've apparently maxed out my character can I respec her?.
want to sort out the ground skills a bit as she gets zapped by the Borg pretty quick

A lot of the endgame content (Borg, Undine) have Vice Admiral versions that reward emblems and at least the Deferi missions begin to offer them automatically once you hit VA1. And yes, you can respec; every time you get a promotion, you get a respec token so now I imagine you have quite a few.

excellent thanks I'll pop in and see what's around.

I dont know why but for some reason I wish I could shoot my own saucer, no idea why just a weird idea I suddenly thought of

The Horta is a pet, and has no offensive or defensive capacities? Only had time to start the mission, and just got into the mine.
