Just wondering if it is worth buying or not? I have a hate about "Pay per month to play" but I wondering if its a TON of fun, or just mostly fun.

:techman:

It's pretty fun, I'd recommend it. Honestly, I hate the 'pay to play' model as well, but found I was a lot happier by just buying the lifetime sub after my first 6 month sub ran out (obviously smarter to do it upfront if you can, so you don't waste the first $75). By having a lifetime sub, you don't feel that 'pressure' to have to play and get your money's worth. if i don't play this week, I don't lose any of the sub time I paid for, just play more later. Once I did that, enjoyed it more.

they've put a decent amount of effort into fixing and upgrading things as they've gone, too, so it's getting better over time. Would like to see more time spent on content instead of things for the C-store, but believe a lot of that is coming pretty soon, so looking forward to that.

Also, if you're thinking about getting this, don't forget to go through a referral from someone here. Gets you a few days to try it out, and there's benefits for the guy giving the referral as well. If you're going to sign up anyway, might as well benefit other people in the fleet/from the BBS. If you're going to go that route, please PM me, and I'll get you set up. I wanna get my couple referrals so I get the holographic bridge officer :)

Well I purchased it on Steam, Now I have to figure out how to set up the account.

PS - I don't have PM yet, so I don't know how to add you as a recommend-er :)

If you don't mind waiting a few minutes, it would be a huge help to run you through the referral thing before you enter your product key and get all set up. Then once you load it all up and build your character, can put in the real product key for the full version. Doesn't change anything for you, but helps me :)

As you don't have PMs, how about just emailing me your email address to send the referral to? (email deleted)

Appreciate it!

No problem, I am not going to put in the full till sunday, As I will be gone all day Saturday and most of tonight, and it will be best for bookkeeping to have it on the first of the month. So Expect a email soonish :)

Edit: Check your mail

Got it, and referral sent. Thanks, and enjoy the game! Don't forget to send us your handle there once you're up and running, so you can join the TrekBBS Armada :)

I currently hold a monthly subscription, but I wouldn't recommend more than that until we get past SWTOR's release later this year. From the current state of the game I can see it's population dropping to the dozen or so whiners they seem to cater to on their forums. Be warned, ANY disagreement with these cherished dozen's opinion will result in an infraction as well as any criticism of the company or it's products. So only cheerful posting about how awesome everything is (unless it disagrees with one of the dozen's views)

Basically their moderation works on the click and shoot principle. if you don't like what someone has posted and are not witty enough to come up with a comeback, just click the "report" icon and a mod will auto-infract them without even looking at the thread. They get a new mod on board every day it seems, but complain about low funding for staffing?

Anyhow I do have fun in the game itself and have met some real nice people who were comrades in misery as we slogged through the STF's for the must have Borg gear. Not having a lifer sub I can drop them at any time I need to shunt the cash somewhere else, like SWTOR :)

There was a time I would disagree with this. Sadly not anymore.

Though while I hope that SWTOR doesn't kill STO as it's enjoyable I wouldn't mind some of the assholes not letting the door hit them.

Other way to handle that is just stay off the forums. Tends to bring out the 'best of the best' at places like that. I mean, look at us here ;)

Well it wouldn't be a problem if the Devs didn't actually listen to these people.

I agree. Sadly it looks like that is all they do is listen to the loud few that don't even agree with each other, so the company is always scrambling in damage control instead of making content.

When STO does fail these same people will be asking, "What happened, the game was just getting good imo?"

Then they will be off to try and ruin another MMO. fortunately Bioware has already told these same people where to go so they won't be ruining SWTOR.

In fact I see a lot of overlap between people against have a Connie at T5 and the PVP nerfers and low and behold guess what they aren't doing any more which isn't fair becuase every other damned main ship is at endgame. Good job Cryptic listen to the minority group that no one really gives a s@#t about.

That makes sense seeing as Star Wars came up with the quote that best describes gaming forums.

Well, the Connie at T5 was CBS as much as Cryptic's "no". There's also no Excelsior T5. ;)

The same idiots that ran trek into the ground, yeah that makes me fell so better

Yes there is, and theres a T5 Vulcan ship that's 200 years old, An Andorian Ship that's 200 years old that's likely going to be T5, the Ambassador that will likely be T5 but god forbid we have the ORIGINAL STAR TREK SHIP at at end game and you can sure bet the upgradable ships idea will likely be killed off to can't risk pissing off the TNG only pricks who think the whole world revolves around them and are just pissed that TNG is dead.

The T5 Excelsior is one of the best cruisers offensively speaking, with a great turnrate and a Lt Cmdr tactical station.
