Yess, andsince escorts vomit ridiculous DPS numbers they grab aggro like crazy and the Galaxy can't do anything to keep the enemies Attention at all.
Insituations where you are racing against some kind of clock you are completely screwed, even though you survive easily against even Crystalline Entity shockwaves or possibly even Unimatrix lance.

I am kind of curious if anybody has ever made the experiment of setting up a Galaxy with Tank dedicated skills and gear.
it will certainly be a very specialized build and useless in solo PvE content and probably quite costly in resources.

Maxed Threat control skill, traits and consoles.
unfortunately plasma weapons (so much for RP) for the extra damage ticks.

Honestly, these days it is possible for any ship to go completely out of whack offensively or defensively.

Timelord, remember my full-defensive, 1.5k dps Galor that took 4-5 sad pandas 2 minutes destroy and only after they combined for a synchronized massive alpha strike? Today, the same ship dishes out 15k dps in ISE while simultaneously tanking the Borg Gateway, Tac Cube and half a dozen spheres. My fully decked out Fleet Armitage could only do 14k and while it can tank some, it certainly can't tank half a dozen Borg spheres.

Cruisers are the kings now, being able to tank AND dish out dps at the same time. In fact I am pretty sure that with a little effort, I can get a Galaxy to dish out at least 10k dps and still tank like my Galor does. Sure, it pales in comparison with the 55k dps some guys can do with a Scimitar, but 10k is enough for any content.

True, yu probably can, but the argument stand. If you show up in a Galaxy you are viewed as a liability where your Galor or virtually any other cruiser is way better.
You can dedicate your build toward raw power output and generate a bit of DPS that way, but not more than other ships and the lack of a 3rd tac console and with only 2 low level tac abilities there is just no way to compete.

Pure tanks are just not what is viable in this game, galaxy needs to be a flexible allrounder, average at everything would be good enough.
I would even be content if she had sci ensign instead of the engineering one.
But that role is already filled by the starcruisers.
Maybe they should have switched those two at the beginning, cause nobody would have cried after the Starcruiser like they do with the Galaxy.
If the ship were not as iconic as it is, players would have completely phased it out of use by now.

You know with all the talk about how bad the Galaxy-class is I think we should take a second and and think about what Captain Picard would do.

Which is to get an Assult Cruiser :)

How often and when are any of you online?
I don't actually have any real life friends who play STO, and my fleet is still small. So often I'm playing by myself. Not that I mind. But would be cool to try some team stuff more often.
If anyone wants to try to meet up online?

Is there anyone on here would can and would be willing to help me Claim Sponsorship with Dyson Joint Command Reputation?

Afraid you can't be sponsored by someone else.
Sponsorship is for alternate characters.
When one of your characters has completed a reputation you can make sponsorship tokens, transfer that to your other characters (only) through your account bank to another character.
Claiming the token then unlocks a 50% discount on that reputation project requirements.

Oh, I see. So its really just to help your other characters once you've already completed that reputation on one character?
Gotcha.

There's something that I noticed during the bonus marks weekend... Despite Cryptic introducing all sorts of events over the past two years, the only events that were played during the bonus marks weekend were the STFs, Crystalline Entity and Starbase Fleet Defence. These three events had at least 50-150 players while all the other events had between 0-5 players.

I have my own interpretation of why this is the case, but I was wondering what you guys think about this phenomena?

Comes down to getting the most out of your time. People are going to farm the stuff that rewards more...just like when there is no bonus event.

Yep, quickest way to get the reward. Or failing that, ones that suck least. Same reason any Colony Invasion queue only lasts a minute; 50 marks, 5 minutes, and can't really mess it up.

Since the STFs got revamped again and there is no longer a ground-unique reward (i.e. only way to get the weapon), when was the last time you ran a ground STF? I've tried joining a few queues, never had one kick off. Can occasionally get a EliteSTF channel group together if you need an accolade, but even that is difficult.

They've commonized the rewards so much that there's no incentive to do the ones that take longer or are harder to complete/risk failure. 3 minutes of ISE is worth the same as 45 minutes of IGE that may not actually complete, why would you run IGE? Need to weigh the reward against how long or how much effort it takes to do, otherwise you're just going to have the quick/easy ones queued up.

In theory, the people at Cryptic do this professionally, seems like they should be able to figure this out...

The last time I was on, I tried to do some fleet actions. I was on for a couple of hours, but only managed to run one Starbase 24 that entire time. Not enough players in any queue to fill any of them up. How many players is this game supposed to have all across the world? And they can't fill a single fleet action queue?

On that last one, be thankful you haven't played with the idiots I've seen. Oh, sure, rush on ahead and leave the boss-level Breen in the path of any respawns...

yeah, had a few of those. takes longer, but you still win in the end, and can't get hurt, so...

I usually try to tell the team to not rush ahead and trigger things in that 20 seconds before the mission starts, it sometimes helps.

Yeah players will always go for the most optimal way of improving their characters. Yet, I wonder how Cryptic feels about how many new events they have created which nobody plays. Its poor ROI for them. And I wonder if they will change the way they design events.

Totally unrelated question: For some reason, I can't find the page announcing the new Galaxy bundle at startrekonline.com. Does the new bundle come with a cloaking device? If so, which is it a normal cloak or a battle cloak?

Battle Cloak? :guffaw:

No, Feds don't have that. Klingons only get that on their Bops while only Romulans have it as their standard (though considering the Defiant's cloak is Romulan in design it really should be one. ;)
The Cloak is included in the Galaxy X purchase, so should also come with the bundle.
The Antimatter Spread console comes with the Venture class and the Saucer Separation with the Galaxy Retrofit.

I'm still deciding if I should get the Galaxy Bundle... A little help? XD

Con:
I cannot see any of my characters using any of these ships regularly.
Any feasible build is bound to require dual Aux2Batt to beef up its miserable dps. And I don't like dual Aux2Batt builds.
I have no idea what boff power to use for the Cmdr Engineering slot.

Pro:
My characters currently don't have access to a cloaking device.
Its the freaking Galaxy Class. It would be nice as part of my "Ships of the Enterprise" collection in STO.
The Venture class looks nice.

I wouldn't bother. I don't use them now, and not seeing anything in the 'update' that would entice me to change my mind. If you haven't already wasted money on them, no reason to jump in late. If you just want to look at it, get the regular version for cheap and don't buy the Z-store versions. Just gonna park in your garage and pull out once in a while to look at, don't buy the expensive one for that...
