Is everyone on the forums that plays STO in the TrekBBS Fleet?

No, or at least several people here have at least one alternate in some other fleet, and maybe a couple people are just completely in others. But for the most part, yeah, we're all in TrekBBS Armada.

How many people are in your fleet at the moment? Not to abandon your hard work (should always leave a toon in a fleet if you're abandoning it, just so you could always get back in without losing anything), but if you don't have a crazy number of people in there, any interest in merging?

Sounds like you've got a small group of dedicated people in there, and having a few more of those in our ranks would certainly be a boost. Not sure of your fleet structure, but once your guys settled in a little, would be more than happy to hand out promotions to bring your leaders into the fold a bit more.

    We're currently at:

Starbase: almost to T4, all 3 sub-categories at around 50-60%

Dil Mine: T2 finishes upgrade tomorrow

Embassy: T2 upgrade almost ready to kick off

Spire: T1 complete, T2 about halfway to being ready to start

So, could save billions in EC and a few million DIL, and join a Fleet that's pretty much completely politics/arguing free.

Up to you, but could definitely help us, and would be a big boost for you as well to jump ahead in holdings. And we could use a few more active people in this forum, so make sure to tell your fleetmates about it either way!

Thank you for the offer, but I think I'm going to stay with my own Fleet :) We do have a small, but dedicated core group of officers now and its growing, as well as overall fleet numbers. I cant even keep a good track of numbers as they are growing daily. I don't know how fast other Fleets progress, but it feels like we are growing fast enough :) In fact, the Fleet is growing faster then I seem to be getting senior officers with experience to help with the new members. I may have to stop accepting new members until I get more experienced officers to help out :(

It almost doesn't matter which ship you pick, whether you use DHCs or beam arrays. Here's my experience in the dps levels I can obtain by slapping these items on various ships:
Fleet HEC with Disruptor DHCs - 13k
Tholian Recluse with Tetryon Beam Arrays, Elite Mesh Weavers - 15k
Cardassian Galor with Spiral Wave Disruptors - 13k
Temporal Destroyer with Antiproton Beam Arrays - 13k
Temporal Science Vessel with Antiproton Beam Arrays - 13k
Vesta with Phaser Beam Arrays- 14k
Breen Chel Grett with Polaron DHCs - 14k
Scimitar with Plasma Beam Arrays - 25k

What matters more is your ship's power levels (these combined items should put you at around 100/75/75/75), don't use any torpedoes, the boff abilities you use and how well you pilot the ship.

What do you find the best weapons/combinations for DPS?

Currently, I have my Fleet Battle Cruiser set with 1 Beam, 2 Dual Heavy Cannons, and 2 Torpedo Launders. All Anti-proton. My 3 aft slots hols 1 multi directional beam and 2 regular beams, all anti-proton as well.
I have 2 Tactical Bridge Officers. LtCdr and Ens. I have the option of a Lt universal slot too, but currently have it assigned to a Science Officer.
My LtCdr has Torpedo: High Yeild III, Cannon: Rapid Fire I, and Beam Array: Fire at Will 1. My Ensign has Tactical Team I.
I like DHC and had thought about going full Anti-Proton DHC. But I like have beams for defence. And I find I use Fire at Will a lot! I was thinking about re-spec'ing my LtCdr to have Fire at Will III.

I was thinking about ditching the Torpedo Launchers and swaping for more DHC. Then I would be Beam and DHC. I could drop the BOFF LtCdr Torpedo:HighYeildIII for Beam:FireAtWillIII, or Cannon:RapidFireII. And it would free up a Tactical Console.

I know it's my choice, but I would like to hear some personal opinions as to some options I could choose from.

I have my own perspective which some people, both here as well as in the dps channels don't agree with, so take it as you will. For myself I like ships that can punch hard, but without loosing too much in terms of defensive abilities and still have some utility.

In terms of weapons, the key thing I do is to remove any torpedoes. Yes it is controversial and very un-trekish. I blame Cryptic for totally gimping torpedoes.

You see, a single torpedo does between 3-5k hull damage or 300-500 shield damage every ~6 seconds (less if you're using something like a chroniton). Conversely, a beam array with 125++ weapons power does 4 shots X 2-3k damage per shot... that is 8-12k damage every ~6 seconds. So the beam array dishes out twice as much damage AND works equally well on shields and hulls. You can make a similar case for DHCs too. Even worse, you need to invest a lot of skill points in Starship Projectile Weapons and Starship Projectile Weapon Proficiency skills just to dish out that gimpy 3-5k damage. It is far better to just drop torpedoes totally and reinvest the skill points you had in projectile weapons on other skills.

As for what type of weapons I put on my ship... I always have a Borg Kinetic Cutting Beam. Beyond that, I either commit to a all-beam array broadsider, all-DBB fore and all turrets rear, or all-DHCs fore and all turrets rear. Slower turning ships are better off being a beam array broadsider. The reason is because there are only a limited number of tactical boff ability slots, so it makes sense to commit to one type of weapon. Sometimes, I do break this rule in favor of something I fancy. It does result in slightly lower dps and requires much more piloting skill, but I like it and thats the most important thing.

As for weapon energy type, I use whatever pleases me. Some guys in the dps channels swear by plasma, some swear by antiprotons, some still believe disruptors are the best. They are good for different reasons. Plasma has a lot of synergy with New Romulus Reputation - there's the experimental plasma beam array that uses 0 weapon power (and thus slightly increases the damage of your other weapons), you can slot science and engineering consoles that add plasma tick damage. All these combine to push up the amount of damage plasma can do. Antiprotons are good because they crit more and crit harder so it makes sense if you build your ship to have a high crit chance. Disruptors are supposedly good in increasing team damage.. I am not absolutely certain but but I think this has recently been nerfed by Cryptic?

I hope that answers your questions. :)

I'm currently playing without a fleet. I'm trying to set up an Australian based fleet with a few friends. Nothing has happened yet. I'm the only one active playing.

If nothing happens, might join the trekbbs fleet. Well ask, knowing what my handle actually is.

Come on in, ElimParra, more the merrier. Like I said upthread, we're starting to be in good shape as a mid-range fleet, so makes a lot of sense to join up vice starting a fresh fleet. Bring your friends, you can have an entire Aussie squadron here. That'll give us some good coverage at yet another timezone :)

Februar in Frankfurt gastierte.

    ================================

I have a few Wrath of Khan Movie uniforms from Fero and Henri. Just ask if you need the code. (These are the Federation uniforms such as sold in the C store)

Invites sent to your two characters. Add "TrekBBS Subspace Com" to your chat channel lists, that's the one we use instead of the Fleet channel. that way you can still chat with people logged in as a KDF character, as well as people who are in our fleet, but logged into a character that's in another fleet instead...

But no reason you couldn't park one of your alternate characters in the Fleet if you're interested... ;)
