Not far off from becoming a commander, and I'm doubting wether I should go for the Cheyenne class or Akira class. I fany the Akira a bit more, but the Cheyenne looks to have better stats.
Any advice??

If people want to pay $200-300 for access to one ship, that's cool with me.

Depends on how you want to play. The cruisers are for tanks, escorts for DPS, and science for support. I personally like the escorts, but it was more it fit my playstyle than me going into DPS.

That's what it says.
So much for flying the new ship in 2 weeks and be admired by all the noobs.. they fly it, too, now.

Right, thank you for calling me a noob.

You know what I mean.
Before yesterday, encountering anyone with this ship would have meant someone to be reckoned with for sure, someone who knows this game in and out.
Even if it was a lifer, he did his time to get experience.
Now you can it within a few days. Leveling up on the same day you fire up the game to cap is unlikely.
Of course there is a lot of grey between that black and white. Nit everyone will be a noon, but not quite a veteran either.

In Regenerative mode, its going to have additional shield resistance and the ability to siphon shields from multiple ship. In Tactical mode, its going to land every shot thanks to the accuracy boost and have a multiple target phaser lance. I'll say even in the hands of a poor player, it is still going to be a ship to be reckoned with.

With Cmdr Tac and Lt. Cmdr Sci slots, its going to be a crazy powerful ship in the hands of a good science officer. Just imagine this in ISE:

1. Gravity Well a bunch of spheres
2. Enable Tactical Mode
3. Phaser lotus + Cannon scatter volley + Torpedo spread

If attacked by multiple spheres, simply revert back to Regenerative Mode and take defensive actions.

Oh and add to that the fact that all my characters will all be getting:

+4 Respecs
+2 Ship Slots
+2 Costume Slots
+1 VA Ship Token
+1000 dilithium refining cap
Bunch of accolades and titles
Captain's Yacht
Android BOFF
Mugato Pet

Christmas just came early! :)

PS: Its feels like I popped back in time and subscribed to STO at day 1. Now I know how The Doctor feels. Time travel, its exhilarating!

As a lifetime subscriber I actually find this very interesting.

http://sto.perfectworld.com/news/?p=706971

So basically everyone with a lifetime subscription gets all the veteran rewards regardless of how long they've been subscribing for basically. Or at least thats what it looks like.

Kind of stinks because most of us had to earn the bloody things the hard way and wait...but nothing surprises me with Cryptic these days...they are constanlty moving the goal posts in this game.

The exclusive ships you only got when you bought a certain version fo the game eventually appeared in the store not long after launch.

The borg captain you got only from a pre-order LTS eventually was given to everybody that bought a LTS.

The captain table opened to everybody with a sub.

And now LTS rewards become avalible to everybody with the cash to buy a LTS.

So really nothing new here for Cryptic. if we wait long enough LTS will come with a new clause that you must buy 1 gold key every week to continue to playing the game. LOL

"Earn". You're comfortable with using that word for something that, without this change, still went to people who bought an LTS before launch, then quit playing, and only came back a month ago?

And yes, they exist; I've got three in my fleet.

There's nothing "hard" about what we did for this; the only hard part was coming up with the money, and frankly most of the people getting this without time passing spent more money than we did, on their LTS at least.

No it just stinks that's i wasted £280 on this game alone never mind the cash a wasted on the c-store on ships and bits, while it sat for a year with no content, then game went FTP 18 months after launch, and has now become a massive grind feast.

Not what i expected when i coughed up my hard earned cash, its annoying that i could have got to the same position i am in now within the game, but not have spent a penny, or spent a fraction of what i poured into the game.............but we live and learn i suppose. ;)

But these are only my opinions........nothing more. :)

Plus i'm Scottish.......i cant help being tight with money. lol

Yeah, they really went overboard.
After this change, there'll be 2 classes of players: those who splurged 200/300€ on those p2w Ships and those that didn't.
The Lockbox Ships were more powerful than the regular Ships, but still in the same ballpark... these? Not so much.

Oh, well, not like it concerns me anymore. Said a bad bad bad word on the forums, been banned. Lulz. Bad words are teh evulz!

Of course their also getting every other vet reward as well.
Would those entice anyone to pay that much for them though? I would guess not. At least 90% of new Lifetime subscribers will be doing it just for the new ships.

And I don't think it will be so big a deal. This is 200 real monies (and that's at a 33% discount!). You can't get them from grinding like everything else in the game.

I see it as a nice bonus for those who are simultaneously crazy-dedicated and can't get the time they really want in the game because they actually have jobs to get the money to pay for a Lifetime membership.

The Chimera is a nice ship. I wouldn't call it OP.
The consoel is as gimmicky as usual.
Half the time the Phaser Lotus has no effect at all, and it strips you of all weapon power anyway. Much worse than Beam Overload in that respect. And it shares a cooldown with BO.

The Tachyon Inversion beam is pretty harmless, too, unless fully specced for drain powers I guess.

The true power of teh ship is it's versatility. I'd put it on the same level as the Odyssey prototype.
However it has an awesome turnrate and if some so wishes he can use it as a full escort.

Myself I did much better in it, once I configured it into a light cruiser/frigate ship with balance between tankyness and dps.
I use phased Tetryon beams and have an engineer in my LC station. No use putting a sci in there, since I have only half the basic sci points necessary to make it count.
Got complimented on reasonable good fighting skill with her in Ker'rat and managed to fight Blamo to a draw (not so much with an escort set up mind you).

If you like cruisers but hate the slow turn rate, this ship is for you.
If you like escorts... an actual escort might be better.

I parsed the combat logs for a single CSE with the Chimera as a sci-scort with a science boff in the universal Lt. Cmdr slot (TSS1, TBR1, GW1).

In Tactical mode, the ship was landing between 99.997 to 100% of all shots fired and of those shots, between 7.5% to 9% were critical hits. DPS wise, I was coming in 2nd place. Not bad considering there were 2 Gurambas and an Armitage in the group.

According to my combat logs, Phaser Lotus was landing 3.5k damage per shot. That is 3500 damage x 3 targets x 8 shots = 84k damage or 28k damage/target. That was with 100 weapons power. With 25 weapons power, the damage is halved.

For some strange reason, I can't find any entries for Tachyon Inversion Beam in the logs so I cannot provide actual numbers. What I can say is that I was hit with an isometric charge, dropping my hull to 10% and the negh'var, raptor and cube were all attacking me. My shields were dropping rapidly and I popped the TIB. It allowed me to hang on with all three borg ships pounding on my ship. A few seconds after TIB stopped, the ship blew up.

Sometimes the RNG hates you.

I swear the Disaster rate was under 5%. And of course Low risk of casualties. That makes three lost doffs in 24 hours:borg:

^It works in the other direction, too. I've critted DOFF assignments with less than 5% chance many times. If only I could have that kind of luck with lock boxes.

If we're showing off our stuff, here's what I've got going on at the moment:

STOgui.png

Swapped out for the Borg set (but with MACO shields) after the photo, i go back and forth on that one, but the Borg bonus with MACO shield is probably stronger...

nice collection, loads of stuff and you expanded your bank slots to the max?

how about rest of you guys ??? show us what you've got, come on don't be shy :D
:rommie:
