There is a very expensive solution. Get the Zahl Heavy Cruiser's mastery trait, Invincible. Couple it with a Regenerative Integrity Field to quickly restore your hitpoints.

Ultimately you have to face the fact that if a Klingon enters Ker'rat, he is in a highly optimized PvP ship and he is looking to cause trouble (they are rewarded dil to kill fed ships). Even my very high dps, high heals general purpose ship builds often cannot counter those guys. If you're going to Ker'rat, you either accept that there will be losses or you move to another instance and hope he does not follow.
This. PvPers of all stripes who enter Ker'rat are ready to blast away PvE players. My ship is heavily optimized for PvE, but only generally warded against heavy PvPers. I can survive against one or two players for a few minutes, but 3 or more will blast me out of the sky, and even up against one or two, I can only counter for so long, because my ship is a balanced ship, and STO abhors a balanced ship.

Thanks everyone for their input. Looks like i will have to create a separate loadout to play in Ker'rat.

Beathing him may be too much to ask for, but i would like the opportunity to bloody his nose before I'm taken down.

In the end it really depends on your ship what you can do about it.
Exactly. When the game first started, I was big into PvP. It was fun to take on other ships, because at the time the balance of power between players wasn't too extreme. Now, though, there are hundreds, maybe thousands, of players who are so loaded out with special items that even with powerful defense systems, you can be killed with a single shot. It's not worth playing those people, and they always hang out in the PvP areas like Ker'rat, so I don't even bother with PvP much anymore.

I made the adjustments mentioned and here's the result. He wasn't able to kill me. I got enough health and was able to hurt him enough that he had to keep backing off. I was able to farm in peace until he returned with two buddies who easily wiped me out. If they want Ker'rat so bad, they can have it. I just don't see how quickly killing someone can be seen as fun. Isn't more fun to fight well and survice the fight?

Not when you're a Min/Max player. Those are the types of players who want to one shot everyone, because it makes them think they have the best ship. There's not much you can do about that.

I've already said before, Ker'rat isn't for everybody. If getting blown up makes you annoyed or angry, Ker'rat isn't the place for you to be in. I don't mind my ship being destroyed in an instant, I know my ship wasn't designed to take a huge 500k damage torpedo alpha strike.

It didn't seem to be a very good design at all. It appears he maxed speed and weapons for a first strike capability. His shields and hull melted quickly and if he wasn't as fast as he was he would have lost. It's s ship designed to kill wounded prey. And if he doesn't kill you in his first volley he has problems. Everyone plays the game for different reasons I guess.

Yes, that's a pretty standard klingon strategy for Ker'rat. Wait till fed ship's shields are down, decloak with huge alpha strike, then run and cloak.

I want to be a space trucker. I wish they'd add a better economy to the game.

The PS4 and Xbox One versions are now live. I'm starting to download the PS4 version. Looking forward to giving this game a try!

Any advice for someone new to it? I'll only be playing PVE with some friends.

Quite sure that there will be minimal options available with PVE at the lower levels. Could be best work on the missions together. Most PVE missions start at level 50.

I'll try to keep it short, but this is going to be quite a long post.. sorry.

PvE is what STO is best at. In fact, I would say there's barely any PvP in STO unless you're really hardcore and dedicated. Play all the Featured Episode missions in the order they are listed to get the story that Star Trek Online has been telling for the past few years. It's a pretty good story that draws from all of Star Trek. I especially love "Midnight", the mission that serves as the finale to the Iconian War arc.

This is a great game for playing with friends as most missions are designed for group play and the game automatically adjust the group's level and mission difficulty accordingly. So you don't have to worry about things like out-leveling your friends.

There are 3 professions (Tactical, Science, Engineering) and 3 general ship types (Escorts, Science Vessels, Cruisers). You can mix and match professions with ship types to great effect so don't limit yourself to only one type of ship. I suggest that while leveling up, try out all 3 ship types to get a feel of what works best for your character.

In my opinion, STO has a great cash store system. You do not need to buy anything from the cash store until you've reached max-level and seriously decide you want to play the game for years to come. If you're just playing STO for the story, you don't have to spend a single dime.

Is that an Xbox thing? I'm n Canada and the PS4 versions is downloading normally for me.
Must be available in the Canadian store as well then... maybe it's had a general North American release? I'm in the UK and it's not come out here yet, I downloaded it (all 17GB!) had to open a US PSN store account to get it. Works fine on my UK PS4 though.

As I said above, I downloaded this last night - disappointed to find that the character and progression I had on PC is not available on the PS4 version though - especially as I broke my own rule about free-to-play games and spent real money on an Excelsior (my all-time favourite Trek ship) to fly about in. Ah well, made myself a new Bolian officer with a funky TOS-inspired uniform and started all over again... damn, that Academy tutorial mission takes ages.

Also, I'm not very adventurous in it, I've never created a Klingon or Romulan character. I'm intrigued to play as a Romulan at some point (less so the Klingons), but I don't have a whole lot of time to invest in it and I'd rather spend my time living my Starfleet dream vicariously...

As an aside, I've been playing STO on-and-off for about 5 years, haven't played it for a long while (last time I logged on before a few weeks ago was to look at the statue of Spock on Vulcan just after Leonard Nimoy died), got a new laptop a couple of months back and got around to installing it last month. I'd forgotten how difficult the damn thing is to control! Especially the space battles, either have to remember a million keyboard shortcuts or stop paying attention to the action long enough to click on like 8-12 buffs/debuffs, during which time I get absolutely pummelled! I don't know if this is typical of MMO-type games as I usually avoid them (never played WoW, for example), but damn it's a pain. Hope they've tightened up the controls for the PS4 - seemed OK on the tutorial mission, but then there was only one buff to activate in the brief battle section...

Nice that console players get to play the game, hopefully this will help keep the game alive for many more years, but for me one version on the PC is more than enough, i could not imagine having to start all over again after 6 years, on a console. lol

To be honest I haven't really put all that much time into it over the 5 or so years I've been playing, don't think it'll take that long to get back up to an equivalent level. Plus sometimes it's nice to just start again and level your character differently, get different ships/equipment etc.

And you say 'on a console' rather dismissively - I'm a predominately console gamer, if I have the choice of playing a game on console or PC, I'll take console every time.

I certainly have no idea why you thought i was being dismissive about consoles, i have a XB1, 360, PS3, Dreamcast, Sega saturn, Gamecube, Wii, original Xbox, so i think that clears me of being dismissive against consoles. ;)

I think you might have mistook my point that i personally, simply could not start this game again from scratch, after going through the 6 years of STO on the PC, that was more than enough for me, especially the early days with no content and grind after grind after grind after grind after grind after grind after grind after grind after grind no, i simply do not have a restart left in me at this stage and will never get over Over Macho Grande. ;)
