Star Trek now in second place, closing in on first!

Some good commercials on television for Star Trek, emphasizing Memorial Day weekend... Good to see they are still advertising...
...including on the American Idol finale.

Wow!

Don't watch that any more, but a spot on that show must've cost a pretty penny indeed given how popular it is.

Be interesting to see how many screens it drops... hopefully not too many, if they are confident enough to shell out the advertising bucks, they should maintain the theater count.

A couple years ago it was $1.3 million, so it might be around $1.5 million now for a 30-second spot.

They're still advertising in Australia as well, despite a fairly mediocre performance. Three during the House finale.

Of course Dr Alison from House was Mama Kirk in Star Trek.

Yeah, but the odd thing is that they haven't had a single ad during Lost. If they were targeting specific shows based on the film's cast and crew, I'd have thought that would be the first choice.

Well, in this case it seems to be money well spent--millions watch the show, and word of mouth is so good that this commercial might reinforce the "let's go see it this weekend" crowd. :)

They showed that whole ice monster scene during Lost.

I just noticed that this weekend, of the likely Top 10, 8 will be rotten....Summer sucks!

Folks, I hate to break it to you, but despite all the bad reviews, it's very likely that T4 will be #1 at the box office this weekend anyway. As for Star Trek, I'm suspecting there will be a big drop-off in audience for Angels & Demons (saw it....ugh, 90 minutes I'll never get back), and that Star Trek will hold onto the #2 spot over the Memorial Day weekend.

It'll be interesting to see what happens. I may just go to see it again this weekend. ;-)

I have seen it twice now. I just started school and I was talking to my teacher and he got on his computer and his desktop was a picture of the new Enterprise. He has also seen it twice.

As I finished my last post in this thread, I remembered that Night At the Museum 2 opens this weekend. Crap. Well, so much for Star Trek holding onto #2. Here's how it's most likely going to be:

1. Terminator: Salvation
2. Night at the Museum 2
3. Star Trek
4. Angels & Demons

3 and 4 may swap, depending on how A&D holds up in its second week.

Hell, for that matter, 1 and 2 may swap, since NatM2 is much more kid-friendly than T4.

Trek will probably be #3 this weekend behind Terminator (draws from the same crowd) and Night at the Museum (the kids). Now for the year, I'd love to see it be #1 but that's not going to happen. Chances are Trek will be in the top 5 behind films like Harry Potter, Avatar, Transformers and possibly either Up or Terminator, if not both.
