Star Trek New Voyages in The New York Times

BUT You gotta give the devil his due: Continues promotes very well, the team releases on time, and they've got a friggin' orchestra.

An orchestra is great but writing new music in the style of TOS (or rearranging the music) is a bit too much for my taste.

I too look forward to both but I must say that without this forum I wouldn't be able to keep them apart. One is new, the other has new actors and both have the same Uhura (so far).

Well, back to the music: That can give a hint. ;)

What's the problem with newly-composed music in that style? To me it feels more authentic.

Plenty of episodes of TOS had their own music rather than only re-using music cues from previous episodes.

While I may have started out with STC simply because it got recommended by a friend, I certainly intend to watch all the other stuff I keep hearing about as well. Places like this forum or other discussion boards are great to get information on what else is out there.

Go find World Enough and Time. Ignore the few rough production things. It's a damned fine story. Oh, and Kitumba - which is is based on a Phase II script, so if you're a 70's Phase II weenie like me, you'll like it for the kitsch value.

I think it's just another element that a talented group of fans took the time to add. Some write, some act, some do CGI, costumes, props... and some compose and perform good music, in keeping with TOS.

I have my issues with Continues...

(Ships Counselor, exposition explosions, anachronistic terms, touchy-feeliness, Trek logo on fire... and I continue to sense more than a little hubris from the production team).

BUT the production values are there, no doubt.

The Great new music adds yet another layer.

But this isn't a thread for that. I want more New Voyages, please. I hope the Times PR helped the cause.

Thank you! Found them all, I think I will start properly at the beginning. It's always nice to wait for something special.
Having said that, I already know Mind Sifter, as we were talking about the fanfic and someone linked me.

"Plans call for filming the next show, which will take about 10 days, later this month."

Well, our shoot is in November--just after Hallowe'en. It is not an episode per se. We will be shooting two short vignettes in conjunction with the team from Star Trek Axanar.

Are you guys planning to shoot Yorktown's pick-ups all at the same time? THAT would be quite a party!!

More of a party than I thought. A post on Facebook today shows John Atkin from Yorktown, Jim Bray from ST: Anthology, Scott Johnson from Starbase Studios in OK, Alec Peters and James Cawley are all there at NV studios. Are they all shooting their own thing? could be great...

They posted a whole bunch of interesting photos from this recent shoot. The biggest pleaant surprise? The return of Doc John playing Bones McCoy once again...

We did film a number of shots for Yorktown this weekend. I had an amazing time working on the Phase 2 set. It was an amazing experience.

Doc John's return to McCoy was only for this vignette as Alec started Axanar with Doc John in 2010. So Doc John as McCoy is Alec's casting for the role. I will mention that Doc John still has one last episode as McCoy due to be released by the end of the year in 'The Holiest Thing' and then this vignette with Axanar.

@ Ryan (Re-nesting a nested quote with pics make me woozy)

Anyhow on the neck bling thing. You're tough.

The production moved the Commodore sleeve bling up to the neckline for Fleet Captain wrap with 3 stripes bling.

Then again, I don't know when the time period is for this costume- Is this accurate to Axanar or post reinstatement after he murdered Marta?

That's right- I remember, Garth.

I remember.

Meh.

It's a bit too flashy for my sensibility. It's a better photo of Alec Peters than the screenshot the Phase II Facebook (Phasebook?) page shared the other day, whereupon the first thought that came to mind was "Those Kickstarters are certainly keeping Alec well fed on the convention circuit! ") but I agree with Ryan. Gawdy.

Also: As nice as it is to see some of the luminaries of the fan film world working together, and as wonderful as I am sure it was to have such an amazing time working together, to be frank I'll be a lot more impressed once Yorktown, Anthology and Axanar actually complete their projects and release them.

I am impressed they are working on projects!!! Origins was dead ended until now, and they said it would be out by the end of the year. I know one time they said 2013 but life happens. Can't wait for this one.

this. If i get one more email about Alec's cat peeing in the transporter room set or something, I will spam axanar with every grumpy cat image i can find.

Yorktown is scheduled to be finished by Sept 1st, 2016. We shot the last of our pick up shots this weekend to help flesh out the size of the ship. The items we are still working on are VFX (Roland Baron, Henry Gibbens, and NEO FX), ADR (various actors), and music (Chris Barr).

That's fantastic news! Looking forward to seeing the finished project when it's ready for release. :)
