For me, STC is like Marvel comics; they have an excellent product but the way they promote it always smacks of arrogance. Things like the way they used to promote themselves as the "Official" Star Trek Continues always rubbed me the wrong way.
NV/PII on the other hand always comes across to me as more likable. I hear more about them helping other productions than I do about them trying to separate themselves from the rest.

@DCR- Yep that's clearly an apt metaphor (although Stan Lee's promotional style was once rather charming...Merry Marvel Marching Society!) Funny that what Lee and company did to Jack Kirby later reminds me of some of the issues aired here and in previous threads.
I've also sensed a behind the scenes Shatnerish /bombast/"grab more of the script" aspect to Continues' leadership. I hope all of that burns off as the production matures.
BUT You gotta give the devil his due: Continues promotes very well, the team releases on time, and they've got a friggin' orchestra.

On the flip side you have other potentially good fan project who don't market themselves, who don't pound their product over potential fans' heads, and as a result they barely make their kickstarter goals and suffer from meager funds. Beside the quality product, STC always tries to increase the number of fans and they're doing it right in that category.
The only catch, and again I'm seeing a Marvel parallel here, is that STC is doing much more of a job focusing on creating new STC fans rather than ST fan film fans, and the more they focus on setting themselves apart from the pack, the less that fandom will transfer over.

As I've said I am for New Voyages and Axanar (outside of Lord Garth rants)
But to extend your point regarding Continues' promotion, there is an element of Steve Jobs here-
He was a champion of making you want the Apple experience (an implied "cut above") not just the vanilla use of a Walkman or PC . So perhaps Continues is working at selling an ersatz Trek viewing experience, one not focused on being another (one of many) fan films.
That said,
Vic Mignongna was in Renegades, and seems to have supported that effort.

They've also supported Farragut in the past as well. I'm not saying they don't support any other films, but that the way they separate themselves from other films means that they are bringing in mostly STC fans, which tends to limit the benefits of increasing the number of overall fans that @Zaminhon mentioned earlier.

Is that facebook screenshot recent/accurate?
I kinda liked Axanar better before joining this forum..![]()
No, it's not recent. And if you pay attention to the complaints in this forum you won't like anyone. Is that facebook screenshot recent/accurate?

That's very true. And if you pay attention to the complaints in this forum you won't like anyone.
I was being somewhat sarcastic, barb. Generally i have a thick skin and a laissez faire attitude regarding things that don't really concern me directly. No, it's not recent. And if you pay attention to the complaints in this forum you won't like anyone. Is that facebook screenshot recent/accurate?

While I may have started out with STC simply because it got recommended by a friend, I certainly intend to watch all the other stuff I keep hearing about as well. Places like this forum or other discussion boards are great to get information on what else is out there. The only catch, and again I'm seeing a Marvel parallel here, is that STC is doing much more of a job focusing on creating new STC fans rather than ST fan film fans...
