Star Trek: Nemesis - The Deluxe Edition Soundtrack from Varèse Saraban

Re: Star Trek: Nemesis - The Deluxe Edition Soundtrack from Varèse Sar

I just checked the website. It says mine shipped on 12/9/13, the day I ordered the CD. Being that I'm in L.A., I wonder how long it will be for USPS to deliver the discs to me.

nuKirk was playing/singing something somewhere? I don't remember.

The tune playing in his uncle's sportscar when taken for a joyride.

"Sabotage" by the Beastie Boys.

Re: Star Trek: Nemesis - The Deluxe Edition Soundtrack from Varèse Sar

My guess would be that there's an issue with their system, so the "Shipping date" is actually the "Order date"

Re: Star Trek: Nemesis - The Deluxe Edition Soundtrack from Varèse Sar

Every time I pre-ordered a soundtrack CD, it took longer to process than when I waited for the release date and ordered then. Shouldn't it be the other way round?

Well, being that the Star Trek albums over the last few years have been released by three separate labels/companies, I would submit that it has less to do with LaLaLand, GNP or Varese than it might have to do with the postal service. Perhaps aim your rage at them?

Re: Star Trek: Nemesis - The Deluxe Edition Soundtrack from Varèse Sar

I didn't mean the shipping, I meant the processing of the order before it's even shipped. Every time I pre-ordered something it took 1-2 weeks between release and being sent out. But every time I waited and ordered on the day of the release, it got sent a day after.

Re: Star Trek: Nemesis - The Deluxe Edition Soundtrack from Varèse Sar

Typically what happens with pre-orders is, people place their orders and they are then shipped in the same order in which the orders were placed. Orders begin shipping on the release date (in most cases, there are exceptions, such as Amazon Prime members). If a release is popular enough all of the pre-orders can't be shipped the same day as the release, so they get backed up.

I would expect orders placed between the release date and when the pre-orders are all shipped would be added to the end of the shipping queue, but companies may take a different approach. Have you actually verified your statement that people who order on the release date get their order before you, even though you've pre-ordered, or is that just an assumption you've made?

Re: Star Trek: Nemesis - The Deluxe Edition Soundtrack from Varèse Sar

My copy arrived yesterday, and I never even got a shipping confirmation - it just showed up! (I'm in Florida.)

It was nice to be able to throw away the extended bootleg, and this album has some bits and pieces that weren't on that album... but this is one Star Trek film that I haven't watched enough times to pinpoint every cue, every alteration, and every note. :)

Brent Spiner's full performance of "Blue Skies" is a pleasant surprise. The "Riker's Strut" cues are basically the background music that plays during the wedding. "Director and Composer" is nice, albeit brief. Half of it is the orchestra applauding Jerry Goldsmith but you get to hear Goldsmith and Stuart Baird briefly reminisce. (Baird edited The Omen, for which Goldsmith won his only Oscar.)

There are more cues that are dark and moody than I remember, but IMHO it still plays better than the original album.

Re: Star Trek: Nemesis - The Deluxe Edition Soundtrack from Varèse Sar

Well, I got to see and handle the set on Saturday at a friend's house. He told me then he usually opts for "Will Call" and just goes to pick his discs up when he orders from Varese. I've done similarly with LaLaLand Records when I order from them, as they're right down the street from me. Might have to start doing it with Varese as well.

The good news is that just moments ago I got an email informing me the CD had shipped, so I should, hopefully have it tomorrow. We'll find out soon enough!

Well that's a completely different matter then, and not worth complaining about, if I may be so bold. That would be like complaining to Best Buy that you had to wait for an order to be delivered instead of getting it the same day, as you would if you had physically gone to the store.

Yes, it's true your friend got his sooner than you did, but he also had to go pick it up himself, whereas it's being delivery directly to you. It's a lot faster for the company to hand someone a CD when they walk it the door, compared to getting the CD from inventory, putting it in a box, labeling it for shipment, waiting for the shipping company to pick it up, then waiting for the package to travel through the system and be delivered to your door. IMO, it's really not a valid complaint to make.

I agree. I wasn't complaining.

Re: Star Trek: Nemesis - The Deluxe Edition Soundtrack from Varèse Sar

Yeah, mine shipped yesterday. I look forward to getting my hands on this one.

Re: Star Trek: Nemesis - The Deluxe Edition Soundtrack from Varèse Sar

I got the shipping email on Thursday, and the discs arrived on Saturday. Taking it for a first listen as I type.

I think I'd forgotten how dark this music was. A bit of a downer...

Re: Star Trek: Nemesis - The Deluxe Edition Soundtrack from Varèse Sar

Mine arrived in the UK today. It occurs to me I got my first CD player in 1993, would have got my first ST Movie soundtrack in 1994. So for the 10 original films - 20 commercial releases and it's taken me 20 years. How odd it averages out to one a year.

So a 20 year mission. Blimey, I feel old.

Re: Star Trek: Nemesis - The Deluxe Edition Soundtrack from Varèse Sar

They still haven't included the double reprisal end titles though. There would have been room.

If you're referring to both versions of the end credits, yes, they're both there. Tracks 8 and 21 on disk two. They'e both called "A New Ending".

Re: Star Trek: Nemesis - The Deluxe Edition Soundtrack from Varèse Sar

He's referring to the actual film version of the end credits, which inexplicably end twice, because of additional music editing.

Re: Star Trek: Nemesis - The Deluxe Edition Soundtrack from Varèse Sar

The music is there, as recorded and mixed, but the film edit was not recreated.

So not as used in the film.

Just seems a little strange - the notes mention that for some of the tracks the mix was altered rather than Jerry's prefered 'live' performances - so both were included, yet it then leaves out that edit.

It's not a partically tidy edit, but it was used in the film. With a new shortened reprisal to end Jerry's time on the franchise
