"Star Trek" movie toy report from Toy Fair Germany...

Admiral Buzzkill

Here it is, courtesy of www.aintitcool.com:

In the special Star Trek room were about 50 action figures, a few phasers, playsets, Spock's ring, Spock's ears and the new Enterprise. The action figures were not the final versions, but you could hardly tell that they weren't from the original tv-series but from the
new movie. Kirk wore his famous yellow uniform (and black trousers), Spock his blue one (a little bit darker though) and Scotty the red one. The Leonard Nimoy Spock had a white monk-like robe, that looked like a variation on the one he wore in The Search for Spock. Highlight was Zoe Zaldana as the new Uhura. She wore the same red communication uniform, but this time the skirt was much shorter and there was much more emphasis on her breasts. In this movie she will give Seven of Nine a run for her money! The phasers and communicators were almost the same as in TOS. Even the sounds were identical. And then: the new Enterprise. As a toy it had a great TOS feel to it. It's a little more "organic" than the original one and I think the two warp engines and the "bite" taken from the central body are a little bit bigger. The floor of the new transporter room is red, by the way. Also shown was another spaceship. It resembled an octopus and could have appeared in one of the Matrix sequels. I don't think it was Romulan.

This is one person's impression, of course. I can imagine Zoe's uniform showing more cleavage, but it's hard to imagine the skirt getting substantially shorter than the TOS original without getting into porn fantasy territory - Nichols' barely covered her red-pantied ass.

I'm still waiting for cell phone pics or something and If Uhurah's skirt got any shorter, well you already said it

Has it been confirmed that these new action figures are clothed as they will be in the new film, or are these toys maybe from a "classic-look" line that will possibly be in stores the same time the new ones are sold?

James Cawley, who was in the movie and wore one of the uniforms, has suggested that the duty uniforms in at least one part of the film are very reminiscent of the TOS outfits.

That's pretty cool.

Wow, that quoate managed to convey everything debush rambled on about in one simple, lucid paragraph–– and from AICN, no less! :)

Very good. If only the Enterprise had gotten so lucky.

What we've seen of it so far is pretty similar to the TOS ship, probably as much so as the uniforms will be.

If the teaser version is accurate, I'd say there's plenty of room to quibble over the term "pretty similar." ;)

I'm going to go out on a limb and make a prediction that what we saw in the teaser was not the final version, which is not to say that the final version will be any more similar to the TOS version than this one is.

Sure, but only among devoted Trek fans. From an altitude of 10,000 feet the ship in the trailer is more like the TOS vessel than any other version - it shares the saucer contours of the TOS and TMP ships, but appears to have cylindrical nacelles.

Playmates doesn't have the rights to Classic Trek or any Trek other than the movie. Diamond does. At least for the moment.

Spock's ring,

Huh? Will Spock's ring be pertinent to the plot? Seems an interesting collectible to have.

:rommie: Where did you find that?

I call bs as this part.

The men get to wear pants, and not show their chest. Why would the women have to wear minidresses, and show their chests?

The pics we have seen of the Starfleet officer, and cadet uniforms show the women wearing pants, and not showing their chests.

I call BS on that too. How could miniskirts possibly be any shorter than they were on the TV show? Any shorter and they won't be skirts at all.
