Probably not the right form for this topic. Better served over in the TrekArt form. Lot's of folks build models and discuss them in the TrekArt form (myself included). Could a mod beam us over to TrekArt? Q2UnME
**Beams into right Form** Now, to answer you question. Yes, I've built many Star Trek models in my lifetime (last count, probably 20 or more Trek kits and growing). Yea, I'm on the old side. Anyway, like anything in life it's always difficult the first time. And like anything, practice makes perfect. My advice to you would be go out and build another one. This time try to fill in the joint seams with putty, smoothly sanding them out and painting after you finished assembling it. There are a lot of other forms where you can pick up pointers. Google is your friend. You can always start a "work in progress" thread here in this form and post pictures of your progress as you go along, ask questions and folks here will provide suggestions and constructive comments. The main thing is to get your hands dirty. Who knows, after building several Trek kits you might really like the hobby and will want to try your hand at ships, tanks, airplanes and cars. Keep trying Q2UnME
Starship Modeler is a good resource: http://www.starshipmodeler.com/ They also have a forum: http://www.starshipmodeler.net/talk/
"Hard to build" is a relative term. Which kit were you working on? As Q2 generally implied, there's a learning curve in it. Don't expect perfection the first time out. Also, before you decide which one to take on next, ask around here and Starship Modeler which ones are the best to start with. Some have serious fit problems, others are better designed. Give us a basis for comparison - did you finish the one you started? Which one was it and how did it come out? Most of all, learn to stay objective about your work. Don't just look at what you did wrong, look at what you did right. Bottom line, build for yourself but don't be afraid to seek out advice and opinions along the way.
A few... http://www.inpayne.com/models/models_trek.html http://www.inpayne.com/models/models_trek2.html http://www.inpayne.com/models/kitbash/trekpage.html And a few to go: http://www.inpayne.com/models/shelves/attic2005.jpg Trek models are no harder or easier than any other model kit.
i've built a couple the defiant was petty easy as was the runabout, the ds9 station was a bitch mind couldn't get the rings straight. these were plastic kits i built years ago moved on to card/ paer kits they seem dam sight easier (well some times) also if you mess up a section you can just reprint it. built the original enterprise in card the stargazer and voyagers aeroshuttle got loads more on disc somewhere which i'll get round to doing eventually also got plans to convert the 1701 to a few of the franz joseph variants. found the card ones just as good as the plastic ones and best of all they are free
If you want to branch out into resin (which is the only way to find any ship not made by Ertl or Polar Lights), kits are available in lots of places on the web. Most prominantly: www.federationmodels.com www.starshipmodeler.com www.culttvman.com Resin garage kits these days are an order of magnitude or two better than they were 20 years ago.
I'm looking for Enterprise D Observation Longue interior made in some 3D program. Would it be possible to find it somewhere to download? And also Ten Forward if possible.
I wish I still had the ones I built when I was a kid. I built the original enterprise, the movie enterprise, the original bridge, a klingon battle cruiser and a Romulan Bird of Prey. The stands they gave you to put them on were crappy and toppled over, so they all ended up in the closet, and subsequently in the trash after they got broken.
Depending upon how soon you need it, this is a WIP for Poser: http://forum.daz3d.com/viewtopic.php?p=1249007#1249007 I've got his corridor model and can testify that he does very good work .
Wow, beautiful stuff I could use them as well, but they are just pictures I don't see any download links.
^^ Hence "WIP" - Work In Progress; the model isn't complete, yet, so there is nothing to download. When it's finished, you'll probably be able to download it from http://www.sharecg.com/pf/rduda .
That's where I got my USS Avenger 1/1000 scale destroyer. My favorite ship design of all time. Thanks Masao, Starfleet museum is canon to me.
Wonderfest reports indicate Polar Lights is back and will be releasing a 1/1000 Akira class in 2009! http://s52.photobucket.com/albums/g31/NCC-1963A/WF%202008/Dealers%20Room/?action=view¤t=DSC05052.jpg http://s52.photobucket.com/albums/g...ealers Room/?action=view¤t=DSC05053.jpg
Thanks. I think the single-nacelle version might be my favorite as well. Small ships are more challenging and more fun to design than battlewagons.
