Star Trek meets Anime

^Uhh, we have two furries on the board here so be nice. I've never met one yet who hated Trek though.

But nearly every hardcore anime fan I've met has hated Trek and been unpleasant to me to say the least.

I don't understand it either. I don't see why it's okay to be a furry and deride Star Trek COSplayers. I always though Starfleet uniforms were pretty cool, particularly the Trek II-VI uniforms. I'm a furry, and I love Star Trek. No reason why one can't love the other.

It's because of the rule of the nerd hierachy. There will always be someone of a particular fandom who thinks that people in other fandoms are below them.

It's why people will always pick on them.
We're all in the same boat but some people think they can walk on water.

I've seen people dressed for Cosplay and people dressed as Dolls over here. It just reminded me of Star Trek fans who dress up also. Screams it.
I think if both groups actually sat down and talked they'd probably find someone who knew exactly how they feel about why they dress up. To think they insult each other is just bizzare.

. There's also the unauthorized parody Star Trekker by Atelier Lana, published in English by Antarctic Press back in 1991.

One of my all-time favorite Trek books, and a treasured part of my collection. Not exacly sure why, but there are parts of that book that even 15 years after i first read it cause my to convulse with laughter.

I'd say "yes" and "no." My friend and I once went to an anime convention and I was in costume and no one gave me a difficult time. But then they could've been ignoring me too.

I've heard of Star Trek fans being given a difficult time at some conventions.

Any times I've ever been bugged about being a Trek fan was at school but that was it.

The really crazy people are the ones who dress up in their favorite sports teams colors and paint their bodies, and go leap around and scream at games. We Trekkies and cosplayers are normal compared to those folks!

What is Cosplay?
I was always embarassed about my ex-fiancee dressing up in Star Trek costumes when we went to conventions, until someone else mentioned the sports fan parallel. My dad is a retired race car driver... so the analogy made sense. Since then I've had more patience toward those who wear costumes. :vulcan:
