"Star Trek: Mandela" (2380's - TNG Relaunch-era)

As a result of an alternate-universe version of "Star Trek: Nemesis", Tomolok & Picard are hard at work containing the deterioration of The Romulan Star Empire's Government from tumbling straight into Civil War. (Picard & Beverly still get married in this timeline, but its been postponed for obvious reasons.)

The new (Civilian-based) Cardassian Government cooperates with Kyle, Will, and Deanna Riker-Troi via their friends on DS9 to secure the release of Thomas Riker from Lazon II.

Captain Morgan Bateson gets temporary command of the Sovereign-Class U.S.S. Enterprise-E in Picard's absence. Picard's called-away on a sensitive detached assignment with The Starfleet Diplomatic Corps to investigate the intriguing mystery surrounding two Human clones....one of a former Enterprise-D tactical officer named Tasha Yar, the other --- of Picard himself.

In the meantime, the Cardassian-U.F.P. sponsored Andak Project gets underway, with Worf as Bateson's intermediate 'Number One'.

So where does Nelson Mandela come into all this then ?

The U.S.S. Mandela is the name of the Legacy-Class vessel that Bateson is rewarded with, for keeping the Enterprise out of harm's way while Picard & Crusher are visiting the Vulcan Science Academy. They're busy talking to Romulan-Vulcan (Undercover) Reunificationist Sympathisers, attempting to figure out exactly how the Breakaway Imperial Romulan State got within arm's-reach of Picard's DNA as they're already pretty clear on how they got Tasha Yar & her daughter Sela's DNA.

Picard and Crusher eventually return to Earth to command the Enterprise-E, but not before generating trouble from Starfleet Command for Jean Luc's role in ramming the Schimitar. Causing Starfleet Command to decide to re-open Picard's experiences with The Borg.

As a result of Garak, Sisko, Miles O'Brien & Worf's contributions to The Alpha Quadrant Alliance and influences peddled via the Starfleet Diplomatic Corps & the U.S.S. Titan on his behalf, certain Cardassians want Thomas Riker off their plate and out of Cardassian territory. Thomas is released to Kyle, Will & Deanna Riker-Troi aboard the Titan in orbit of Romulus, where he's then transported to a rendezvous with the Mandela, his C.O. Captain Morgan Bateson, & Chief Medical Officer Dr. Kathrine Pulaski.

During temporary emergency command of the Enterprise-E, Captain Morgan Bateson & X.O. Worf are assigned to investigating a bizarre persistant electronic "Bermuda Triangle"-like anomaly in Romulan Space, along shipping highways uncomfortably close to Romulus itself. Incidents begin to accumulate, leading the crew to believe they're on the trail of a (believed deceased) artificial lifeform lost during The Battle Of The Bassen Rift over a year ago. In the beginning, the crew are enjoying trips to the holodeck, (baseball games, trips to Riisa,) and the programs begin to revert to a rainy London England flat in the 1700's. None other than the headquarters of Arthur Conan Doyle's Sherlock Holmes --- 221 B Baker Street. Other clues begin to surface that result in "breadcrumbs" to the source of the program override glitches through low-level security "holes" that wouldn't aggressively bar an outsider.

Data was thought lost during the explosion of the Schimitar. But instead, Data downloaded himself into the Enterprise-E computer core while examining B4 and compiling *everything* both androids had learned/accumulated over their respective lifetimes while not telling Geordi or Picard absolutely everything he was doing in the lab. Data's creator (Dr. Soong,) had told Data years before, upon learning of the existence of his emotion chip, where to find another body to download his programming into, in the event the original was destroyed/incapacitated.
