Star Trek Legacu Mod Question

My son picked out Star Trek Legacy at Walmart the other night and we have played through a couple of missions and updated the game to version 1.2 (even though the UI says 1.030). I noticed file front has many different mods for the game. Are there any there are better than the others, or ones that you would recommend?

I'm wondering about this as well.

I remember wanting to check out the game but then all the negative buzz killed any urgent desire I had to do so.

However, I now find myself with a lot of free time and no particular expectations of brilliance, so If there are a few good mods for Legacy, please let us know.

Also, I heard patching issues mentioned. What were the main flaws with the game overall and what was Bethesda's response to the game's reception?

Thanks

I just installed the 'The Ultimate Universe 1.0' patch and that seems very well done. Many different ships are there to select from and new races as well. Some new game types are also enjoyable.

I really don’t have any complaints about the game given its budget title price. It is worth the 20 bucks I think. It definitely is not Star Fleet Academy, it is like kindergarten academy and that is refreshing considering academy came with a three page triangle keyboard display which had all of the different key combination on it.

If I had to pick one thing that either doesn’t work like I want it or I don’t know how to use it is targeting. I can give all ‘four’ ships a target command but they never can attack my target. And I have no idea how to individually select a target rather then just the closest one.

I never got subtargetting to work. I just went for the brute force method, and on missions where that didn't work, I had to use a trainer to upgrade my weapons power.

I dont have a clue on how to even begin to make sub targeting work. I can not even compute how I am suppose to target a ship and keep lock on it.

do I suck that bad?

No its not you, its the game. ;)

I get the notorious "hero ship" bug, in which Kirk is still stuck with the NX Enterprise, and you can't change it. I would have gone no further, but the modders stepped up to the plate where Bethesda sat back and took everyone's money. They had a huge hit with "Oblivion" (also starring Patrick Stewart for the first part of the game) and don't seem to take fixing Legacy seriously.
You might want to get the "All missions" mod. This is the only one that fixed the "hero ship bug" for me, basically just lets you select any mission from the campaign - but it kills the point system for ship buying.

Sub-system Targeting - not in the manual, and of course not on the Bethesda site anywhere - you can find a video explanation on Youtube, but essentially it is this:
use SHIFT-T to toggle sub-system targeting
get a phaser lock (white/grey circle)
hold the T key (mouse pointer appears) and try to click on the sub-system you want. It's not easy, but can be done.

Just consider yourself lucky you only paid $20 for it. A whole flock of people paid $50 for it a year ago when it was first released and were highly disappointed to find most of the features that were supposed to be in the game to be absent. :(

Legacy is a fun play and it's nice having the voices of all the Trek captains. I use the Ultimate Universe 1.0 mod too. It could use some polish but they're working on v2.0 so hopefully it'll deliver.

It's no Starfleet command though. I'm just glad I got someone else to buy the game for me!

I would consider buying the game at 50 bucks highly offensive. The Ultimate mod does add some quality to the game which probably should have been there from the beginning.

I actually like that it is not like Starfleet academy or the other star trek games which require a bible to use the keyboard. I enjoyed starfleet academy and Klingon Academy when I was younger but Legacy works for the kids really well.

I was reading up on TUM forums the othernight anf they say 2.0 will not be out until next year sometime. They just released 1.0, so Id give them until mid year for anything progressive. In the mean time the kids are enjoying running around with four galaxy class super ships. I wonder why the All good things galaxy class never made it into the mod.

I was one of the twats that bought it on both the PC and the 360....Bethesda must have been laughing their heads off at that one...

They probably have the security cam footage, which they'll be playing in a loop at the office Christmas party.

I replayed a bunch of Legacy last night, while flaggelating myself. Knowing the issues already, it's actually a lot more fun. Like sending a scout class ship (Oberith?) to zip over and knock the engines out of the transports. The last transport caught on to what I was doing, and wouldn't give up the ass. So I had the Ticonderoga warp in and help take care of business. The moment of zen of the night though was in an earlier mission, using the destroyer to launch a volley of photons, blowing one of the Romulan stations to bits and having the ship fly through the explosion. I have to say it was pretty sweet.
It's actually a pretty fun game when you get it going, and don't try to make it something it isn't. I like the camera and ship control, for the most part, the angles and visuals you get are often really nice.

I guess what I really want to know was why did Bethesda drop the ball and what was their response to the fans who paid for it?

Their response was a patch fixing multiplayer issues, and that was pretty much it.
