Star Trek: Klingon?

Norrin Radd

Vice Admiral
Do you think they could do a Trek series from the Klingon point of view?

If so, in which era should it take place?

Would people watch it?

I'd watch it, as I've started to appreciate Klingon culture more as I've got older. But I'm not sure it could sustain itself as a TV show. Make-up and budgetary concerns aside, the crux of Star Trek (to me at least), has always been analysing the human condition - our morals, our hypocrisies, our thirst for knowledge, our need for peace, and so on.

The Klingons however only represent a portion of what humans stand for. They have honour, they have a deep and rich culture, but they're more in keeping with what humans before first contact with Vulcans represent than the idealists we've seen in the three eras of televised Trek.

As I said though, I'd watch a miniseries or a one-off just solely featuring Klingons. Maybe set in the aftermath of the Dominion War, as the culture is on the brink of changing - as Ezri suggests to Worf, if they don't change they deserve to die. So there's room there for expanding on Klingon politics too, which I wouldn't mind seeing at all :)

I think you'd be guaranteed a lot of the Trek audience, but as for newcomers? Maybe not so much, as they probably won't be able to identify with the funny men wearing Cornish pasties on their head and shouting a lot :p

Shame it would properly last as long as the Trekkie who tried holding up those two stores a few weeks ago or it would end up been one victorious battle after the next which wouldn't provide much of a show.

Trek is about the human condition. Every major alien species is just an aspect of humanity. It wouldn't last. Its like having cake for every meal. It might be delicious at first, but you'll soon get sick of it.

It would initially kick ass, then they would run out of story ideas, and (unfortunately) turn the Klingons into pure camp ala the Ferengi.

How about a Sci Fi channel extended miniseries? Say, 9-12 episodes?

I think a miniseries like with Star Wars The Clone Wars could work. I thought that this could be set from the view could be of a time traveler so we can see different stories from the future or past like with the Relativity episode.

When UPN first started up, I wrote them with the comment that, if they really wanted to compete as a broadcast network, they needed a daytime soap line-up. My suggestions:

1. A regular soap, but with unusual things always happening at the periphery of the story. That stranger who just wandered into town, stayed a couple of weeks' worth of episodes, and then wandered on? The news in the background of a current scene is showing him stop a out-of-control train in the next town up the road. That sort of thing.

2. Another well-scripted soap. No gimmicks. Two or three families from rival consumer appliance companies.

3. Two or three families and associated characters on pre-Reformation Vulcan.

4. Two or three families and associated characters on the Klingon homeworld.

I got a dismissive "Thank you for your consideration" response, not surprisingly. :D

I think it would work if they showed a little diversity among the Klingons. One thing that I never liked about Trek is the lack of diversity among the respective sentient species. I mean, if Earth was portrayed as one of those worlds, it would be inhabited by only white people who practiced Christianity. We all know that that's not the case. Sure they attempted it with the Xindi. But that was laughably superficial. If they portrayed the Klingons as more than a gaggle of honor-happy, monosylabic, grunting, barabrians, then I'd be on board.

Sure they could.

If so, in which era should it take place?
Depends - Klingons from TOS are completely different from TNG Klingons, and ENT Klingons are a mix of the two. Personally I prefer the old-school TOS Klinks - far more interested than the boring honor-obsessed Klingons of TNG.

Would people watch it?

Nope. I pretty much guarantee that Star Trek: Klingon would be canceled after the first episode.

Dear lord I hope they wouldn't do a show like that. I got burnt out on the Klingons with TNG and DS9.

An alien perspective show would be a very tough sell. Hard enough to get people to watch a space-based show in the first place.

I don't know about TOS Klingon. But when I saw them in Star Trek Deep Space Nine : Treeble or what ever and Star Trek VI, I can only say that I prefer Star Trek TNG Klingon.

Well, TOS Klingon in Star Trek VI is too... Human. What are they anyway? An alien or a human with alien costum and act like Tough Guy?

I think making a Star Trek from Klingon Point of View is a good idea. But, It won't stand alone as a new TV series. A Star Trek with Klingon as characters (not Worf who work in Star Fleet, but more like General Martok who lead a Bird of Prey or something) can do the work. Although He won't considered as main casts, but the series can tell about him and his crew (just like one of DS9 Series).

Right now, I can say that Klingon is an interesting empire and culture. I don't like Worf. He's just a kind of traitor who think that he's an honorable Klingon. But I like what TNG ( and DS9) has offer about Klingon.

Until several days ago, I thought Klingon is a brutal and murderer who like to kill each other. But after rewatch their portion of story in DS9, i think my previous thought is wrong. The problem that I had with Klingon is that I don't understand them completely.

Klingon is supposely an alien with a different culture from us, Human. Their history is full of war, so, they walk the path of history with the path of warrior and honor. It's not an entirely unbelieveable. If, we are human can't understand the culture of canibals from Aztec Empire, the war crazed people of Viking, and the harakiri lover of Japanese Samurai, then why should we understand the Klingon culture.

That's why making a story from Klingon Point of View is a good idea. This culture offer me such misterious and unbelieveable way of life that I don't understand until now. But, making it as an independent TV series won't do the job. Because, the only one who understand Klingon are Trekkies

4. Two or three families and associated characters on the Klingon homeworld.

How about one family: A small one rising from its disasterous support of the Duras Clan. The clan head gets Command of a Listening Post - instead of a disruptor to the back- and the Little Brother gets to keep his Warbird.

Series Begins with Little Brother being instructed to check in on some overdue Science Team on an out of the Way world. Beaming down to the Camp and instantly losing contact with his ship which is destroyed by Romulan Warbirds that come out of nowhere - He finds Romulans with a small fleet of Phased and Cloaked ships hiding below a Planetary surface inside Klingon space on the eve of the Romulan - Klingon War.

Instead of one disconnected episode after the next as they have done with previous Startrek they could do begin with a Miniseries as they did with Battlestar Galactica and do a continuous action story so that seven years of Episodes are probably more like three continuous years charting the rise of a Klingon House from nothing.

Why? Haven't Klingons been ruined enough from TNG and onwards?

Maybe I'm a TNG boy after all. That's why I prefer TNG Klingon to TOS Klingon. For me, TOS Klingon is just actors with leather jackets and act like a tough guy. But, that's personal preference.

I have and idea about Star Trek : Klingon

The story will always from the POV of Federation and Human. But, our main character will be a dedicated Diplomat who send to Kronos in order to settle things there.

The story is begin many years after the dominion war. When Gawroon dead of old age, the imitated Emperor Khahless want to merge the empire with Federation. He thinks that the only way Klingon save their economy is to join Federation. But, lots of families oppose him. That's why, Federation send their best diplomat to Kronos to handle this matter.

The Federation wish that Klingon won't fell apart from the civil war just because her emperor and chancellor want to join Federation while the other won't, but the Emperor Khaless wish make everything become worst and worst. Pro and contra fill the Klingon homeworld, and thus burn a new civil war. The warriors from both side ready to charge their distruptor and kill each other.

This time, the diplomat's task become very complicated and dangerous. The empire weakness called lot's of previous Klingon enemy like Romulan and Cardassia to seekout their piece of cake. But, the most dangerous situation is, The Federation wants some pieces of Klingon Empire too.

The Main character must save Klingon Empire from every danger, including Federation. He's even considered as traitor by Starfleet and hunt down by Starfleet Agent. Later, he found something unbelieveable that push him to save and protect the empire even more.

Main Cast :

1. Federation Diplomat. He or she... I prefer He will become the main character and work as Federation ambassador in Kronos. Later, his name will surpass Curson Dax and Jeanluc Picard in the eyes of Klingon.

2. Diplomat's wife : She will accompany her husband in Kronos. Unlike her husband who facinated with Klingon, she hate KLINGON.

3. Diplomat's daughter : A young and fair lady who think that Klingon is not her place. So, she hates her father and want to leave Klingon and return to Earth. Later, she will find that Klingon is amazing after she knows Grilka.

4. Klingon Chancellor : A Loyal Subject to the emperor who want to fulfill the emperor wish. That's why he contacts Federation to talk about the merge / membership talk.

5. Kang of the House of Kang : Grandson of Martok. A true and honorable klingon who love his empire more than anyone else. He thinks that the Empire shouldn't join the Federation and should stay as an independent Star Empire.

6. Murok : A Bird of Prey captain who will accompany Kang in his journey to outer space. He loves Grilka, but his family say no because of her dishonorable act to impersonate Human and left her sacred Klingon culture.

7. Grilka of the house of Grilka : Granddaughter of Grilka, Friend of Quark. She is a young Klingon Maiden who serve in Klingon's newest Flagship as a science officer. Although she considered honor as the greatest thing in her life, but she hate violance. She is one of the young Klingons who feel the era of cross culture between Federation and Klingon. Although a Klingon, Grilka is a fair young maiden and talk smoothly just like a Princess from Ancient Earth. And... she wore earth's clothes.

This could be interesting, especially if they use John Ford's Finial Reflection as source material. If nothing else it would make a great movie!

Personally, one of the most boring and uninteresting aspects of Star Trek is watching, and reading about, Klingons interacting with each other for any prolonged length of time.

I would not watch a Star Trek: Klingon series if you paid me.

I'm actually bored with the Klingons. They pretty much took over DS9, the movies and a lot of Enterprise. Where are the Gorns and the Tholians? They're awesome yet no one hardly ever does anything with them. Just a mention here and there and an appearance in the Mirror Enterprise episodes.

Because Klingons are a galactic super power.

I mentioned this idea a while back ago and no one seemed to like it. I'm surprised you're getting responses. I'm jealous :klingon:
