Jack Bauer’s body, believed to be mortally wounded by a gunshot to the back of the head, was put inside of a stasis canister in the early twenty-first century. So was the body of the man who had killed Jack’s daughter, and her child. His name was Thomas Devron. He was part of a cabal to replace all the world’s rulers with clones.
Then, three hundred years in the future, the canisters that contained Bauer and Devron, which had been lost through time, were found. Upon having his own wound repaired by Doctor Julian Bashir, Devron attacked Bashir, killed him, and then escaped the Starfleet medical center he had been brought to at a complex in twenty-fourth century Siberia.
Upon finding historic data about Jack Bauer, Admiral Picard ordered that he too, Jack Bauer, be brought back from the “dead”. Captain Beverly Crusher-Picard, now the wife of Admiral Picard, operated on and was able to remove the bullet from back of Jack's head. Bauer has now been enlisted to track down the escaped murderer of Bashir; Thomas Devron.
We now continue…
The shuttle-craft, which was piloted by an attractive young woman, made its way from the base in Siberia to the giant mushroom shaped Starbase in orbit of Earth. Jack Bauer, who sat next to the young lieutenant in the passenger seat, looked out the window in sheer awe. This was his first time Jack had been outside of the base in Siberia, and as the shuttle climbed up and through the atmosphere, he could only shake his head in amazement at the advances made since the twenty-first century.
Then he looked out the main viewing window, and saw the giant mushroom shaped structure that was their destination.
“Holy shit,” Jack whispered.
“I’m sorry sir?” The young lady responded.
“Oh,” Jack said to her, “I was just making a small comment. That thing is huge.”
“Actually,” she said, with a nice smile, “it's really only one of the midsized Star-bases.”
“I’m sorry,” Jack said to her, “I didn’t quite catch your name back there.”
“My name is Lieutenant Linda Keller,” she said to Jack. “Admiral Picard had some administrative details to work out in San Francisco, so I was asked to bring you up to the Starbase. I work directly for the Admiral, so do not worry, he isn’t just assigning you with busy work with me. Apparently the Admiral has something up here he wants us to get, and more importantly, you’re associate will be up here soon as well.”
“My associate,” Jack said softly. “I hope he doesn’t mean partner. I’ve seen to many of them, friends, die over the years. That’s why I learned to work alone.”
“He believes that once you leave the confines of the Earth system,” Keller told Jack, “you’ll need someone who knows where they are going to be your guide.”
Jack thought for a moment. It did make sense, he realized. It wasn’t like he was going to be able to break in to a car, hot wire it , and drive somewhere to get answers. The playing field of Earth had just been enlarged by about a factor of a zillion.
“So,” Jack said to Keller, “if you’re not going to be my associate, then who is?”
“Now that,” Keller said to Jack, “I do not know. The Admiral said he would beam up to the Starbase once he had taken care of that issue. I guess we’ll know then.”
Jack nodded. Picard was personally picking out Jack’s partner, and was also no doubt, trying to procure a mode of travel. But one part of Keller’s last statement confused Jack.
“You said the Admiral would beam-up?” Jack asked. “What does that mean exactly?”
Keller looked at Jack and realized, again, just how confused he must have really been, since being revived. She explained the concept of the Transporter. Upon hearing it, Jack responded with two words when asked if he wanted to try being beamed somewhere.
“F-ck no.”

Admiral Picard had made covert contact with Captain Wiliam T. Riker. Riker, who was Picard’s former first officer when they had served together earlier in their careers, met Picard at the Golden Gate Bridge. The two long time friends strolled slowly along the bridge, nearing its apex. They were already in deep conversation.
“So,” Riker said to Picard, “you’re hoping this Jack Bauer can track down this killer before he can do any more harm.”
“Yes,” Picard replied. “Earth, and more importantly, we as a society have evolved much in the past three-hundred years; Wil. This man, Jack Bauer, was considered a hero in his time. Yet, as I read about his accolades and methods, I can not help but wonder what kind of society it was, back in those days.”
“It was a different time,” Riker agreed. “But if Bauer was able to keep his nation state, America, safe in those times? Then who are we to judge his actions? And if this Thomas Devron is as ruthless as you say he is, then who better to bring him in?”
“Agreed,” Picard said. “Now, were you able to help with my two requests?”
Riker nodded.
“Yes, I was.” Riker told Picard. “You wanted me to find you an officer, with a chip on his shoulder, a little rough around the edges, who would be able to assist Bauer, but also keep Bauer in check.”
“Precisely,” Picard said. “I think Bauer will would work easier with someone from our time who, at least superficially, shared some of Bauer’s traits, which include, questioning all authority at times.”
“Well,” Riker said with a slight chuckle, “Mnu Subrelqui is exactly that kind of person. He punched his Captain, McGregor; twice. He was also running an illegal Dom-jot tournament at his last command. The only reason we haven’t kicked him out of Starfleet is because he is darn good at what he does. He can pilot a starship, or a shuttle, or any alien vessel, with expertise that even Captain Paris would envy.”
“Paris is a legend,” Picard acknowledged. “Though, I might add, I once had a first officer who could pilot anything that could fly as well. What about the package?”
“I was able to get her here pretty fast. You know,” Riker said, “I am not happy with letting them use her. I paid for that ship with a big chuck of credits. I even had to cash in my Triple-Dabo coupon with Quark to scrape up the last round of credits.”
“But don’t forget that I,” Picard added, “used my pull to get it on the market for you.”
“You did indeed,” Riker added with a warm smile.
The ship they were referring to was only the second of its kind. Its sister ship was destroyed by Riker during the Romulan cabal to invade Vulcan, many years in the past now. Both ships were commissioned by a Feringi smuggler. He was killed while attacking the Enterprise-D with the black, and very sleek, “muscle” ship. Riker had always secretly desired to attain one, and was quite happy to find that Starfleet had confiscated the sister ship and had stored it in a secured Starfleet wrecking yard. Riker, with Picard’s help, was able to ‘procure’ the ship for his own private collection.
“Do you think,” Picard said to Riker, “that this Mnu Subrelqui will be able to fly it?”
