Star Trek III: Storyboards/Excelsior-Class Bridge

I remember in the DVD I used to own for Star Trek III they showed a number of story-boards, of which at least one or two depicted the proposed bridge for the Excelsior. They were decidedly different than the bridge-set for the Excelsior shown in the actual movie.

Does anybody have any pictures of the proposed Excelsior bridge-set? Also, does anybody know why the final bridge-set looked so different?

Seems like I remember seeing a styrofoam model for sale at one of the online auctions, but I don't remember which one???

As for why it ended up so different? Chalk it up to cost effectiveness.

Neat concept. The giant screen with the on-screen displays finally showed up in XI.

Wow, pretty interesting stuff.

That bridge would've been way too futuristic for that time frame, though. That looks more like a bridge suited for the ultra-futuristic USS Enterprise 1701-J that was seen briefly on Enterprise. Everything there looks mostly holographic, which is awesome, and I LOVE how the walls, the ceiling, and the view screen are completely invisible (which can probably re-appear like normal with a voice command) to make it seem like they are on the outside of the hull.

If they ever do a new series that takes place in the 26th or 27th century on the Enterprise J or some other futuristic ship, I sure hope they use this kind of a bridge, cause this is just way too cool of a concept to never be used in Star Trek.

Well, the concept does look at lot like the Kelvin bridge from ST09, what with the status report in the middle of the viewscreen etc.

I could be wrong, only saw the ep once, but I'm pretty sure they never showed the Ent-J's bridge.

I wish! Unfortunately they actually never showed the bridge of it when Archer briefly stepped foot inside of her. But I can imagine that the bridge of it would probably look a lot like that concept drawing. Here, however, is a picture of the Enterprise-J herself!
