Star Trek Hunter Episode 24: A Trillian Problem

Great stuff, here, RBC!

I think you've done a masterful job of depicting a Federation that's forming stress fractures. I mean, a Trill civil war? You know we're in trouble when they start coming apart. Speaking of which, fascinating insight into early Trill society. I'd always wondered how this peculiar symbiotic relationship got started. It makes sense that early symbionts had something in common with their B movie counterparts, in the early days.

Liking Jet, the teenage prophet / leader/ mistress who manages to kick her own symbiont's ass.

Dolphin really shined here as a masterful tactician. Although I'm sure this wasn't the first time. I'm just behind.
But quite a risk inserting himself into the Trill conflict, even it was for a noble cause. The cool thing is that you explore the legal ramifications of your heroes' actions, outside of the usual dressing down by a superior. Dolphin is like Perry Mason with a phaser.

As I've said before, you're tough to keep up with! How you produce work so fast is beyond me. Are you sure you're not an AI? And it isn't just speed. This isn't light reading. Lots of carefully laired complexity and subplots, working towards a larger tale.

Will get to the next one as soon as I can! keep it up!

Seeing as this has just been bumped, I guess I’ll take the chance to leave a quick review, given that I’ve just reached this point in the story. Very nearly caught up! Still loving it. I’ve mentioned the universe of hybrids before, but it’s still such an obvious (and logical) way for the Trek universe to be, rather than just the occasional Spock :vulcan:.

The scope of the story is great as well. And with so much going on, you do a really good job of getting a somewhat skittish and forgetful reader like me back up to speed with little notes here and there. So just when I think I’ve lost track of Sela, or the Borg, or space whales, or something, I get caught up pretty quickly. You’ve also managed to make Wesley Crusher a likeable character, which should be commended.

There’s also a really strong sense that nobody is safe. There have been some shocking character deaths in the last few episodes, and that means you’re constantly on edge when reading. In the Trek TV shows, no matter how bad things get, you’re usually pretty confident that everyone apart from Ensign Redshirt is coming back alive, but in this it feels like all bets are off. Everyone's in genuine peril.

(Is it wrong that I mourned Krull’s death the most? Though what a way to go! :klingon:)
