Star Trek First Contact

I may be mistaken, but I seem to remember a lot of anger from Picard, and even Guinan in I, Borg.

And Picard's failure to infect the Borg with a virus, using Hugh as a carrier, raised the ire of Starfleet admirals. So there would be some who suspected that Locutus was still compromising Picard, but they couldn't prove anything. So they kept him away from the Borg.

"Descent" took place after this, and Picard and the Enterprise were right on the tip of the spear there.

the federations flag ship
But was the Enterprise E the flagship, or was that another ship following the demise of the Enterprise D? As for holding this one ship out of the fight, I know a lot of people advance the idea that the sovereign class is some kind of "mega-battleship" equivalent, but we never really see this on screen. True like other starfleet vessels it is "armed," with only (in FC) one torpedo launcher and a small collection of phaser strips.

There's no indication that it's an unusually strong combatant.

They were just pootling around the Federation doing low-grade diplomatic missions. Next stop was an archaeological dig IIRC. Clearly for whatever reason they were kept out of fighting whenever possible.
Not just the Enterprise E, I can't remember seeing a single sovereign in any of the big dominion war battles. We did see several old galaxy classes, perhaps they were stronger than the sovereigns.

:)

They wanted Picard to pull a Kirk. The sovereign was saved for the movies only so we wouldn't grow bored of it.

I understand that Picard has had unfortunate past troubles involving the Borg, but may anyone tell me who's idea it was, (no matter the reasons why Picards past with the borg mattered) but whos idea it was to keep the Federations flag ship out of the battle between the Borg and the Federation over Earth??!!

It was all Admiral Hayes's idea.

Didn't ya watch the movie?!?

Yes i did watch the movie, but when did 1 admiral saying no make all other heigher ups in the chain of command agree to exclude the federations flag ship out of a battle that could alter the whole of Earth?!

Apparently Admiral Hayes was the one callin' the shots for that particular defensive fleet, so it was his call whether or not to Picard, "Fuck off. We got this."

So, he did.

Sure there's a chain of command, and others that Hayes would have to answer to, but when did TNG ever show "command by committee"? A decision would be made, and Picard would get a call from one admiral with the orders.

That simple.
