Star Trek: Federation.

Autistoid

Captain
A total reboot of Star trek.

A harder sci fi, that basically corrects all of the issues with the original star trek.

The main premise restore star trek to a more sciencebased show.

More specifically removing much of the baggage that comes along with 50 years worth of writing,
that may or may not reflect a consistent vision nor one that is current.

She show will still maintain a style of socialism where all people's basic needs are met.

However star ships, planets, energy limits are real.

Not every captain is know by name, There are few star ships.

A smaller number of races, and zero forehead aliens unless directly related to humans.

An ancient aliens ark will be fundamental to the series.

Replicators will be essentially complex 3d printers.

Mining is an important activity of the federation, as well as avoiding the wasting of energy.

A 5 year mission that actually takes 5 years with 60 episodes.

What would be the appeal of a "science based show" to the general viewing public? Sure, NOVA and other PBS shows do bring in a relatively nice sized audience, but no-where near what it would take to keep (or put) a Star Trek series on the cable, two and a half to four million viewers per episode.

[The] show will still maintain a style of socialism where all people's basic needs are met.
Not something I'd personally would want to see in any new series. Hopefully in the Trek future people will be living in a advanced society where they can independantly providing for themselves and their families, and not be treated as dependent children who require a paternalistic government to see to their needs.

An ancient aliens ark will be fundamental to the series.
Like "ancient astronauts?"

:)

Galaxy Quest beat everyone to the punch. That's why I say there should be no unhuman like aliens - their all Humans but the Klingons and Romulans for nostalgia sake but absolutely no prosthetics. I think they should tackle how Trek began again. What forced us into space.

It was direct canon(in one of the best TNG Episodes) that all humanoids are related through ancient ancestry.

Which also explains why romulans and klingons have similar blood types, vulcans can mate with humans etc.

Why cardassians and bajorans can have children.

Why there is a vulcan relative with forehead ridges in tngs etc.

Its actually a very fascinating idea that was underserved.

It wouldn't be about pure science, it'd be simply about keeping the show stronger in the sci fic catergory than space fantasy like star wars.

It would focus far more time on keeping the show logical like a real vision of the future.

Far less magic, or story telling styles that make no sense logistically.

I.e. Main cast escaping the odds 100 percent of the time, planets of hats coming out of nowwhere and disappearing the next day.

Less magical anomalies, and magical engineering solutions to fix them.

It would still be trek.

You sound like a maquis JK.

One of the more interesting arks would be that
colonizing space is about getting independance from earth/government.

The future is a place of choice.

The main difference from ancient aliens is the idea that these ancestors are long dead and seeded us, and had no interaction with us in rescent times.

Some core ways to keep the magic out, is to use modern physics ideas to base the technologies.

As well as use basic logic to structure how these fictional technologies operate.

1) New techs has strict and specific limitations(i.e. Replicators can't make star ships). People must actually work within the limits of the technology (warps drives require massive amounts of energy).

2) Double edge swords usually acompany most technologies. I.E. Warp drives must produce some form of polution etc.

3) Paradigm shifts must occur, if computers can copy music, record companies no longer make records etc.

The show would feature multiple casts at different times and places in the federation.

All humanoids would have independent primate ancestry.

As well has individual racial profiles, that make mimic certain pysc profiles of modern day people.

Human colonies and colonial offshoots of other races would be exstensively studied.

Vulcans would be the first modern race to get warp drive(400,000 years ago).

As a result of there ancient sophistication, they'd suffer from an idelogical inability to compete with modern humanoids.

Unwilling to engage in war, and shrinking in number they are a declinning elder race.

Romulans there modern day descendents are a much more cunning and agile race.

Bajorans the second oldest race, would be pacifist's neurological, however would have exstensive population numbers.

Klingons would have a mix of neanderthal features, tng type features, and TOS klingon type features. On the surface would be intellectually less sophisticated race however would be shown to have advanced predatory instincts(spatial awareness etc)

The series would develop as a series of seemingly unrelated arks that would converge on several themes/plots.

1) A newly settled federation colony in the midst of mass terraforming efforts.

2) A cyberneticists developing artificial life, and bionics(the beginning of the borg)

3) The exploration of genetic engineering technologies.Khan-aguemnts

4) The discovery of ancient artifacts, that unlead to an uncovering.

5)The idea of environmental decay. The idea that warp engines pollute and require massive amounts of energy. And why space civilizations burn out.

6) Section 31 as an organization that is in dealings with the vulcans to maintain piece and order in the galaxy by any means necessary.

7) The federation(a human only union, trying to include other members)

When it comes to sci-fi, I prefer the fiction element than the science. Avoid excessive and overly complex nonsense technobabble. Focus on the characters, what makes them tick, the relationships with others, their histories, and growth over the run of the series.

Well technobabble can go both ways.

Alot of the time it is quite literally gibberish made up by lazy writers. Than other times it becomes quite memorable concept that define the series. Khan and the Eugenics, data's positronic brain, The doctor etc.

Irregardless I'm not talking about inserting a ton of jargon to make a logical world. I'm more or less talking about removing a lot of nonsense.

New jargon would be like. "Captain we need to get to cardassia ASAP", "I would but we have to budget our power reserves."

Sorry, but you can not have Star Trek if you have hard sci fi.

But it should be used as a vessel to illustrate real scientific and technological principles.

At least to a minor degree.

If their power generation and regulation systems are so inadequate, wouldn't the logical step be to signal a ship nearer to their intended destination and relay all relevant data to them, so that they could then go and save the day? Which would make our hero ship much less heroic. They might as well have a main computer that runs on Windows Vista

Lazy writing has led to technology being able to do whatever is needed in a pinch, but with 150+ aliens providing their technical know-how we shouldn't get bogged down by just what we, as humans, see as restrictions.

A heroic ship less magical and heroic sounds actually quite interesting.

Would be cool to see a view of the other ship, what it's like with some random under prepared ship dealing with a difficult situation.

Seems like it's be a recipe for some great drama, without the need of excessively angst ridden conflict(ala cold wars, evil admirals, dyfunctional professionals etc)

This is hitting the nail on the head.

It adds a new dynamic, that allows both old trek, and an updated version to coexist.

This would play in to directly the idea of multi ark, anthology type writing.

Where sequence of events doesn't need to be shown linearly.

I.e. Ship A contacts Ship B, Ship B is the introductory episode reacting to a chatotic situation.

An anthology series that looks at multiple ships and characters then? It's an idea I'm not opposed too, though, depending on how it is done, it could ruin the flow of the storyline if new characters are introduced here and there.

Seeing how poorly they've handled character development in the last two movies and series, it's something that would take a lot of work for them to do right.
