Star Trek Excelsior: Buccaneer Logic

Nicely done, you’ve certainly caught my attention.

I liked your portrayal of the crew, and the awkwardness of Tuvok’s trying to find a place in the social dynamic of his new assignment. As has been mentioned earlier, all the characters rang true here, and I like your light, jovial take on Sulu. The man could obviously be a stern leader when necessary, but it’s nice to see a captain that knows how to have fun. :)

Scenes 3 &4

Started reading this today (the second best way to introduce yourself to a new forum -- give feedback!), just a bit ago. I really liked the first part with Rand and Sulu fencing; you've captured a long-time camaraderie, and still some of Sulu's wonderful derring-do! I also really like Tuvok's introduction, both in him chiding himself for not being open-minded, but also not being able to overcome his own issues with it.

The tension between Rand and Tuvok, more Rand, was fascinating as well. Makes me wanna dig and read more (which I will doubtless do here as time permits). Love Sulu and Rand sharing a drink, and laughed unexpectedly at the introduction of the PotC movies.

Good work!

Definitely look forward to seeing more--just like others here, since this resolved so quickly but left so many character threads hanging, it really feels like this was just a teaser and there SHOULD be more behind it.

Keep it coming!

I definitely do feel like there should be more here and I'm hoping we'll see it. You do an excellent job with these canon characters and I liked your portrayal of a young Tuvok and especially how you captured both the fun side of Sulu and the...somewhat disenchanted side...of Rand.

More please...

Thank you all! Yes, I really enjoyed writing this tale. I'm very pleased to know that y'all enjoyed reading it!

BTW, the PotC element was something I'd wanted to write for a long time.

Trivia note: In the beginning of Sulu's second fencing scene (the one with Tuvok), the "old pirate ditty" is, in fact, the classic jingle from the ride!:)

Again, thank you.

Unfortunately, it'll probably be a while before I get the time to write a sequal. College, and all that. *sigh*

Not to worry, though. Anyone like to pick up on this, and write a sequal of their own?

Okay! Thanks for the feedback, everyone! Now...I've got a whole bunch of other short stories in the ol' MS Word folder. Here's a brief list:

DS9: O'Brien's Song: My very first Trek short story. O'Brien-centric, set sometime in the 1st Season.

TOS: Forgive & Forget: A Janice Rand tale, told from her point of view, set during and immediately after "The Enemy Within".

TNG: B-4 and After: Set shortly after NEM...unsure exactly when. It center's on B-4's growth, centering also on Geordi and Leah Brahms.

Which one would y'all like next?

I'm definitely a sucker for the TOS era--we don't see nearly enough stories set during that period and I'd like to see more of your take on Janice Rand. So--one vote for that.

Yeah...it's very interesting. Anyone notice that, up until recently, almost no TOS books were set in the first half of the first season?

I suppose this could be because everyone wanted to use Chekov, but still....

I would love to see that O'Brien story. If the title refers to what I think it does, that's a key incident to one of the characters in my work as well--except on the other side. I always love seeing what people make of that whole chain of events.

Such fun! I was really glad to read the exchange between Tuvok and Rand -- it was a great conversation that really showed their respective personalities. And the fencing match with Sulu in this latest chapter I've read was a whole lot of fun, too. Good stuff!

B-4 and After! I've always been intrigued by him-kinda like the "Remember" scene with Spock/McCoy in STII.

It doesn't. In fact, now that I think of it, I really think I should change the title--I just picked it as a homage to "Uhura's Song" and "Scotty's Song", both tales that focused on.

Yeah...I'll probably remane it to "O'Brien's Day" or something, before I put it on....

Thank you! In fact, the Rand-Tuvok scene is, I think, one of the finest scenes I've ever done. While I was writing it, I felt a great deal of warmth in my heart... and I'm still very proud of it.

Awww, you can call it whatever you want--I'd still love to see it. :)

Finished reading! If it were a standalone, I'd say it was rushed, but since it's potentially part of a longer series of 'episodes', it's a pretty good pilot. Interesting characterizations, and a set-up for a few episode story arc in the discovery of the security system. Good work!
