Star Trek Equinox

A comment from their facebook page:

Star Trek: Equinox Eric Nyenhuis. When Camren says NO BUDGET its a term used to describe funds used in production for example Hollywood considers $4.000.000 to be NO BUDGET the cost of the trailer was $12.000 of the $100.000 spent on Equinox in the past Eighteen Months with only $11.000 in total crowdfunding which left $89.000 to be picked up by myself. As I take insults personal I should not I apologize to everyone at Equinox for my retort the pressure that WAS put on me as executive producer becomes overwhelming at time especially when my life savings gets absorbed. Better thing are coming...#LLAP

THAT trailer cost $12K?

THAT trailer cost $12K?

Plane tickets to New York state can add up.

But the "trailer" is just the teaser of the episode, not shot separately, I would suspect. So how do you separate that?

THey either don't know what the hell they're doing or there's some kind of fast and loose game going on with what they want to reveal about their spending. But I agree - it does seem odd that such an unremarkable, uninteresting little bit of their film could cost so much. Did they build their own sets? Could that be where the money went?

The Equinox "team" shot on our New Viyages/Phase II sets in Ticonderoga, New York.

Did they shoot the whole thing? or just what we saw in the teaser?

I think they said they shot only a few days, so I guess that is all they´ve got. You probably could spend 12K on flights and hotel, but I doubt it. What puzzles me more is the supposed 100K they already spent for the development of the movie. For what? They don´t have sets, props, costumes (well, except maybe Ms. Blancas costume). They have a script. Wow...

All they shot was the trailer, at least from what has been announced so far.

I really don't know what to think about this production, and I've had no dealings with the producer, but his comments to date don't fill me with confidence. I do know the writer, Camren Burton, and he's a good guy.

I finally watched this. My mother once said if you don't have something nice to say ... well say it.

However, in this case, I'll only say that there's nothing spectacular that stands out. The "trailer" is a by-the-numbers fan film.

With such an amateurish result, I can't be surprised at the reported 100 000$ price tag. It makes me steam as well...

I just reread their ''plot synopsis'' on one of their early Kickstarter pages, and my head spinned from all the mental contortions...When your series concept takes forever to explain, perhaps there's something wrong there...

This project reminds me too much of another recent crowdfunding attempt, the Captain Pike project, also filled with high ambitions and mainstream actors, but terribly short on film-experienced crew.

Pike does have Tobais so you know at least the space VXF will be top notch. :)

With a halfway decent script and voice-actors, Tobias should crowd-fund his own CG Trek film. Wouldn't be any worse than many other offerings. Aurora shows how much you can do with so little (and to best of my knowledge has never asked for a dime?)

Question: Was I a complete and utter fool to support their Kickstarter? :guffaw:

The perk I signed up for was a digital download of the completed movie. It does not look like I am ever going to see a return on my investment. :klingon:

There have been no production updates for quite some time and their visual effect artist, Gabriel Koerner (who I think is fantastic by the way), has had their trailer/concept video removed from Vimeo. :cardie: The site now reads:

“Vimeo has removed or disabled access to the following material as a result of a third-party notification by Gabriel Koerner claiming that this material is infringing: Star Trek Equinox – TEASER”.

Sorry Philip I hope you did not lost too much of your money on this! to me it look like a good idea but it NEVER pan out! and that sad. I just hope that with the NEW CBS online Star trek show that they will let the fan made shows keep being made !

A cursory search on youtube reveals the trailer is still up over there. However the Facebook page hasn't been updated since September.

Camren Burton, who was the writer for this, lost his wife recently. I can't comment on the veracity of anyone else involved, but I know Camren and he is an honest guy. If someone is being dishonest, I can assure you Camren is not that person.

As far as the trailer that was removed from Vimeo, Gabe Koerner posted on Facebook that he was not paid the sum he was promised for the effects work. Which does raise the question of exactly where that money did go.
