I'm with you, Christopher. That said, I was recently struck by a real-world conversation I had with a fellow Trekkie, who balked at the notion of calling the Federation a "nation." After thinking about it a bit more, I can see how one could interpret canon to depict the Federation as an international entity, much like a much stronger United Nations.

But still. The novelverse has clearly established the Federation as a nation (perhaps as a "nation of nations," but still), and that's the interpretation I tend towards as well.

The definitive novel 'verse guide to Rigel!

I have a friend on a Mass Effect role playing site who has an unusual fondness for Rigelians and a real appreciation for Enterprise. He's thinking about trying some Trek lit, and this would be perfect for him.

Also, I agree that the cover is gorgeous.

The novelverse has clearly established the Federation as a nation (perhaps as a "nation of nations," but still), and that's the interpretation I tend towards as well.

I like the idea of thinking of the Federation as a "nation of nations", not unlike how the UK has been described on occasion. The UK's components: England, Wales/Cymru, Scotland, and Northern Ireland/Ulster...with the possible exception of the last two (which we can debate elsewhere on TrekBBS) have long held to still consider themselves nations in their own right despite their participation in the UK as we know it today.

I really like the cover art.Doug Drexler did a great job with the artwork.That's an intriguing synopsis it will be interesting to see a storp about the Rigel worlds and political intrigue and spies.It will be nice to see Captains T'Pol&Malcom Reed expoloring the Rigellian worlds and the Orions trying to stop Rigel from joining the Federation sounds like a great story .I can't wait to get this book!
