Amazon is having a great Black-Friday sale all week. We picked up TOS Blu-ray Seasons 1 & 2 for $57 bucks each and Season 3 for $52 (55% off).Just noticed the SD one-disk release was only $9 at amazon today. Can't beat that price.
It was supposed to be $24. at Best Buy on release date. I went a week later and the Blu-ray is now $29. Hmm. I may wait for the next sale now myself.I was at Walmart at midnight on release day and got the 3 Disc Blu Ray Special Edition for $19.
I purchased my Blu-Ray Star Trek at Target for $25 complete with a neat little model of the Enterprise. The Blu-Ray without the Enterprise was $20. (And no sales tax in Oregon to boot!)
(Best buy has blu ray players for $99 if you're contemplating making the switch. Bought one a few weeks ago anticipating this release.)
You should have bought it first week out. The three disc Blu-ray version was $29.99 at Target, $29.98 at JB Hi-Fi and $29.84 at Big W first week of release. I know for a fact that it's still that price at JB because I saw it yesterday.^The price at Wal-Mart was very good on release day for the Blu-ray - $26. I WASN'T ALLOWED TO BUY IT, THOUGH.I think that I'll see it in about another 30 days.(I would have put a Santa smilie in here if there was one)
I haven't seen it below $40 here. $15/25 are my 'comfortable' price points for DVDs and Blu-Rays respectively, anything pushing beyond $20/30 better have a damned good reason for doing so.
At this rate it'll be a while past Christmas before I pick it up.

Feh.
Don't be too proud of this technological terror you have created!
The power to entertain millions is nothing compared to the power of the Dark Side!
..
Damn, I miss Scott Bakula!
sigh.
It looks like Star Trek has dropped to 5th in week 2.
I think the top 5 is:
1. Up
2. The Dark Knight
3. Angels & Demons
4. Santa Buddies (Direct to DVD)
5. Star Trek
Frankly I think that is a poor showing...

Oh well, still took 3rd largest opening in 2009 apparently. Also the week one sales are actually 5.15 Million, not 5.7.

Ditto. Saw it for 19.99 elsewhere but the Enterprise model was worth the extra $5.

Not really. You should note the phenomenon known as "Black Friday" as was mentioned in the Reuters article. It isn't just another week in DVD sales, and the retailers don't treat it as such either. So it's not surprising that two kids DVDs (what do you think all those parents were out shopping for at 5 AM?) and a huge DVD that was big with the kids this past year, and being offered for dirt cheap, did great business on black Friday (I can assure you that TDK didn't jump as many spots as it did because of a coincidental sudden interest in the film in one week.) Not really surprised with that last and actually pleased that Star Trek held up how it did given, again, Black Friday.
It's safe to say that there wasn't some strange phenomenon in which all the parents and anyone else shopping for DVDs were suddenly made aware that the new film somehow tore down Gene Almighty's vision of a bright future and yada yada yada.![]()

Hm. Didn´t the figure you linked to in the original post include the sales of Blu ray discs as well? Does the list over at UK Mix do that?
Anyway, I guess most of these numbers are qualified guesses.
BD Sales, November 23-29: Angels & Demons Wins by a Nose
Sony Pictures Home Entertainment's 'Angels & Demons' was the top-selling title on Blu-ray in the week ended November 23, according to Nielsen VideoScan First Alert. In its second week, Paramount's 'Star Trek' got to number two, although both titles were remarkably close in sales volume - units sold were within 1 percent of each other. In Black Friday week, consumers "snapped up DVDs and Blu-ray Discs like candy", with estimated total packaged-media sales of 25 million discs.
Here are the top ten selling titles on Blu-ray for the week:
