Star Trek Drinks

One Christmas a few years ago my brothers and I attemped to re-create all the famous drinks from Star Trek. We pulled off the following:

Romulan Ale: Vodka and Blueberry Kool-aid.

Bloodwine: Cherry Kool-aid and Vodka.

Kanar (Blue): See Romulan Ale.

Kanar (Black): Jaggermeister.

Kanar (Sticky Brown): Corn Sypurp, Vodka and Chicken Stock.

Alderaan Whiskey: Green Kool-aid, Orange Juice and Golden Rum.

Tron-Ya: Grapefruit Juice and Vodka

Boy did we get drunk that year!

What have you guys made?
 
I usually don't drink alcohol, because I'm already addicted to Coca-Cola and cigarettes, and didn't want to risk becoming addicted to booze too. So I use a certain smokeable leafy substance, which I believe I've already mentioned. Advantage, no hangovers.

However, one time around Christmas or my birthday a few weeks later, I bought Bailey's Irish Cream to try in morning coffee. I liked it so much, I stopped adding the coffee.
 
We watched "Relics" a few times and I got into a heated debate over a green Kool-aid and Vodka combination or a Golden Rum/Orange Juice and Green Koolaid mixture which I felt got it the closest to the hue saw in the episode.

The Koolaid/Vodka blend looked like this:

but my orange juice/rum mixture looked like this:

The TNG version looks way hazier, and tastier with the rum plus I was getting sick of Vodka! Still, it got me pretty lit up!
 
If it was with chicken stock and corn syrup I think what you would get is a salty, savory drink. Kind of like alcoholic marmite. Which if you grew up with wouldn't be a bad thing.

An interesting one is makgeolli, which is like boiled rice water with a bit of fizz and strong alcoholic kick. Sometimes tangy, often oddly savory. It's DELICIOUS but I can imagine many would be put off with the food association they don't expect to find in their booze.

I think it would be interesting if Kanar was salty.

I live and work in a K-Town at a Korean company, so I have had my fair share of Makgeolli. ;)

I never thought of it as being savory, but maybe. It's a good drink. If I'm going to drink Korean alcohol though, I usually go for soju.
 
Cool! I am going to some special place where they make it themselves soon, can't wait.

Oh nice! I've only had cheap Makgeolli haha. Soju is even cheaper, especially in my area. The Makgeolli in the Korean restaurants is usually better quality than what I get at the store though.

Is the place you're going to in Austrailia? I had no idea they made it there.

For the Kanar, I always imagined it to be super strong and slightly sweet, maybe pretty bitter too.
 
I freaking hate Soju, it's like the only booze I've ever hated. That said I've only had the standard cheap ones, I've soldiered on and tried most of them but nothing has taken. Yeah the makgeolli making is in Melbourne somewhere, I will take pics :D It's in house, they make different varieties, not sure if you can buy it outside of the venue.

And then there's THIS delicious stuff which I'm sure you have had!

Soju is soooo cheap (I don't think there is even an expensive one?). It's not even made properly really anymore (supposed to be from rice but now they make it out of other things like sweet potatoes too) and might be an acquired taste haha. :lol: At first, I didn't like it much either.

But if you ever are in the situation where that's all there is to drink, I recommend putting cucumber slices or lemon slices / lemon juice in your soju shot (it's common to ask for a cucumber or lemon slice). If you happen to have some at home, you can ferment fruit inside of your soju bottle for a while and make fruity-soju.

Lots of Korean people just dump soju shots in their beer too, called "so-maek". A combination of the word "soju" and "maekju" (aka beer). Also it tastes better when you're eating awesome Korean bar food with it haha.

I've also had soju with Sprite. That wasn't bad! Took the soju flavor right out.
