Star Trek Doomday - Kelvin Timeline Trailer Project VFX Assets

Should just be able to click the Vimeo logo and take it full screen. Either way, here is a direct link. Replace the "tt". I have to do that so it wouldn't automatically generate a player window.

FYI - Regarding the embedded Vimeo - the Vimeo logo is not clickable (like the time you had posted one in your Tyson thread.)

I agree on Ashfivekay's suggestion to add some movement to the pod occupants. The overall animation looks wonderful :techman:

Last year when I started modeling the Salcombe, I was a novice modeler and had bitten off more than I could chew. However, I've had a year of modeling lots of other things, including the Tyson, which gave me confidence to resume this. I will bounce back and forth working on the Salcombe and 1701-A bridge, depending on which strikes my fancy on a given day.

Glad you're working on this again!! I love this design and can't wait to see it finished.

Draft one of Sagan Observatory establishing shot. Any critique or suggestions welcome, as always. Station model by Chris Kuhn.

Looks amazing but... could you slow it down just a bit? Give the viewer a chance to drink in the beauty of both the Sagan design and the shuttle pod.

Cheers,

Salvombe would look great next to the NCC-1000 type Bonaventure

Here is an idea. The Bonaventure project was to be whatever the first warp SHIP design was, with metals re-used as per Mandel, with TAS being the last iteration, before NCC numbers were re-assigned, with now smaller, less armed ships getting lower numbers. A Bonnie to Connie ship chart rivalry?

The station & starship look great, but you may want to fudge the lighting on the travel pod during the start of the shot, or change the angle of approach. The flyby positions the key light right behind the camera and makes it look super fake.

Yes, I noticed this as well. I may have to do that indeed.

"SULU: It's veering off, back on course for the next solar system. The Rigel colony, sir.
DECKER: You can't let that reach Rigel. Why, millions of innocent people would die.
SPOCK: I am aware of the Rigel system's population, Commodore, but we are only one ship." - TOS : The Doomsday Machine

Rigel 7 as it appears in The Cage...

Rigel 7 as it appears in my project (only 90% complete. Needs work still)...

The finale shot of my project will be several Starfleet ships, led by the 1701-A, engaged with the Doomsday Machine above Rigel 7.

That's what I did. I think that was the intent in the original matte painting, anyway.
Sorry, but nope. Google would have disabused you of that notion in 10 seconds. The first pulsar wasn't detected until November 1967, almost three years after the Rigel 7 painting was done, so, nope, not a pulsar. Pretty sure the object is question is a ringed planet. Sure looks like it here (I'm assuming this hasn't been retouched, given how clear some of the brushwork is):

I'd go with ringed planet. Even though a LOT of their energy goes out thru the observed jets aligned with their magnetic poles in some cases, I'm not sure having an inhabited system close enough to see those jets would be possible.

Yes, I know it's Star Trek, but I like astronomy too, and can cringe at some of the errors they made in TOS.

By the way, for the travel pod shown in the flyby shot, those people look too big relative to the pods' docking ring.
