Well DSC is the apparently the new TOS because old TOS is about to be erased from the timeline or something because someone doesn't know what gold lame is and they are using modern production values or something.

And the reason they did that is because of the great "is the tunic green or is it gold" civil-war within the Federation, followed by the great "Pastel Pyjama revolt" after the V'Ger incident.

It has a healthy budget. Pretty high actually. Though I've no idea how much of that was allotted to costumes.

Right, yeah I was sorta quoting common knowledge. TOS had a dece budget but had to do tons of world building and special fx every week, the monetary bane of sf shows for years, relative to their more normal cousins.

Aside: I liked the pastel pajamas. But I was a kid getting new Trek, so I like a lot about TMP to this day.
