star trek discovery uniforms, costumes, and clothing

Those are actually pretty much the colors of the early TOS episodes where they used cotton velour for the tunics. In fact they may be older uniforms.

Mount looks in those shots above like he's uncomfortable and doing everything he can to hold his gut in...he's got a visible belt-line in a couple. These outfits are not forgiving.
Yeah... very often, Tight ain't Right.

I love the DSC uniforms and do not find them in any way goofy*. In fact I would say they were far less goofy than most uniforms in the Trek franchise (especially the new DSC/TOS hybrid uniforms which look absolutely terrible, imo).

*The DSC mirror universe uniforms, now those were goofy AF. But they were awesomely goofy AF and I thought brilliantly within the spirit of the original Mirror, Mirror stuff, albeit not really believable as a single design path.

I don't hate the Disco uniforms, but I don't really like them either. At times I kind of felt that they looked like a bad Oregon Ducks uniform (Google it). And I've never been crazy about the wraparound collar, or whatever it's called.

Regarding the concept art posted in the original post, I actually think I might have mixed it up a little. Go with the tops we got on the show (sans the collar), but maybe have the black pants from the picture in the middle.

Although I do kind of like the jumpsuit variations.

There are SO many things that they *could* have done for the Starfleet uniform costumes in DSC. I can think of SO many details, large and small, that I would have done differently but I guess all are now irrelevant conjecture given that we have what we have.

The one little thing that bugs me, however, is Pike's gold cuff rings: as a long-shot, they should have had Pike with two and everyone else with one (following the intermediate scheme from WNMHGB) or, more sensibly, they should have just followed the TOS-pattern and used a broken line of parallelogram lozenges for the middle stripe of the Captain rank instead of the thin middle line from the JJ-verse. (Obviously, the same would also apply to LTCDR and LTJG). The pattern of gold cuff-stripes in thick-thin-thick just looks TOO much like contemporary USN LTCDR and the whole point of the TOS cuff-rank design was that it was *meant* to be different from any contemporary naval rank stripes.

I know it's a piddly little detail but it really would have helped to differentiate the DSC "Constitution" uniforms from the JJ-verse uniforms and would have tied them back into TOS.

As a side note, while it's not what I would have chosen to do, I did notice the subtle additional detail of the gold piping along the zipper-line of Mount's uniform, which is obviously absent from the uniforms of the two lieutenants in red and blue -- this is, I guess, somewhat akin to the gold detailing on the shoulders of the various Captains' uniforms in the standard DSC blue pattern.

Fans have been imaging uniforms for a long time. I'm glad DSC had so much information to work with.

Star Trek uniforms so rarely look like anything people would wear in a working situation. The Enterprise outfits came closest; the STD outfits may be tied with the "monster maroons" as the most implausible.
I don't need them to be practical. Fashion rarely is, even military fashion (and Starfleet isn't even a military!) Or maybe they're practical in some weird future way we do not get. Anyway, I want them look cool, and a bit weird. Because future. ENT uniforms were ugly and boring as fuck. Fine if you need your oil changed, but completely inadequate for boldly going.

Yes who would wear such things

I like these the best out of anything in Trek:
