Star Trek Discovery to drop F-bomb (at least twice)

This is just another sign that Trek is finally catching up to the modern day, and moving beyond the '80s/'90s style that Trek was stuck in all the way through to the end of Enterprise.

That's not a good thing IMO, as most modern television shows are unwatchable dreck. What television I do watch is mostly from the '70s through '90s, with a few exceptions. YMMV.

No. TV is in a Golden Age.

I keep hearing that, but it's not true. At least not for me. I'd much rather watch TOS, TAS, TNG, DS9, Space: 1999, Babylon 5, Andromeda, etc., for the umpteenth time than the vast majority of television shows made since 2005 or so.

The Handmaid's Tale is awesome. It alone makes this the golden age of television for me.

Your loss. TV Shows like Breaking Bad, Mad Men and more recently Handmaid's Tale put those shows to shame.
I'd rather watch middling skiffy shows like Dark Matter than sit through B5 or Space:1999 again.

I don't watch anything with nudity, gore, nor graphic violence. Just about every television show made in the past ten years or so that people rave about has that, so they're completely unwatchable to me. YMMV.

Mad Men
has none of those things. You should give it a try. Though I wonder about not watching nudity? You see that every day when you take a shower.

But, I find life gets pretty dull if you never expand your experiences. I used to cling to nostalgia. It got to be pretty empty after a while.

Oh, it does.
Again, it's sad that fans a show that tried to push the boundaries of it's day no longer want it to do so.

I feel like people have been saying this since The Sopranos.

Most of the great shows of the past decade have ended or are coming to an end. The only one I've heard that comes close is Westworld.
The Sopranos USHERED IN the golden age. You can go into deep cable and find legitimately great shows. My best example is davincis demons. A show that well reviewed, shot and recieved didn't even get renewed for a fourth season. Put a show like that in the early nineties and it would have been mind bendingly good. But in the current landscape? Pffft, didn't get renewed. It's not so much the upper echelon being great. Game of thrones, breaking bad, mad men, Westworld. It's about the lower tier shows also being amazing, American gods, pirates, santa Clarita diet, davincis demons. It's like a sports team, the more depth you have the better team you have. For the record I think American gods is that upper level

Westworld, Better Call Saul, Handmaid's Tale and the Expanse are all quite good.
