Star Trek Discovery to drop F-bomb (at least twice)

I, personally, have no problem with the F-bomb. I use it daily. I do however, have issue with it in Star Trek. I got into Star Trek when I was 8 years old. Paramount and CBS both seem to be oblivious with the importance of bringing in young viewers who grow up as fans. Parents probably won't want to watch "mature" Trek with their children.

I have a daughter and I don't mind if she hears swearing, include the F bomb. It's not a big deal. It's not like their brains will be harmed by those words. However, I'm guessing it'll be the themes and possibly violence that might be too disturbing. I'm not sure. She's not into ST anyway so we won't be watching it together. But, if she was, I'd at least check it out first.

Did Shakespeare? I know Chaucer was pretty profane.

Willy was, in fact, fond of invoking God in ways that were socially out of bounds in his day.
Just because Dickens avoided the use of profanity to spare the delicate sensibilities of Victorian England doesn't mean people didn't swear.
All those writers could be very creative in their use of profanity or offensive slang that is largely missed by us nowadays.
Especially since Star Trek was willing to push on and even cross that line on occasion. When did Star Trek become so timid?
Since syndication meant protecting the status quo. And now, by calling attention to it, it is not longer significant to the story and will break the suspension of disbelief.
I think it's time for Trek to become less stuffy and move on. Be more natural.
I think using it is more realistic, but this fervor over it is rather odd to me.

This is yet more proof that CBS is lying and DSC is actually a reboot. They can't possibly be dropping the F-bomb in this show, since Kirk & Spock are unfamiliar with swearing while talking in STIV.

Reboot I tells ya, reboot.

I guess it won't be one of those "In the 24th Century humanity has evolved beyond the need for swearing" things.

Merde.
No, it's a matter of writing towards a particular audience and production values. It isn't supposed to be prophetic.

Hence the no-smoking sign in TWOK.

It's being used twice in the entire season? And in a moment of exuberance by a Starfleet cadet? I have no problem with it. Now if Lorca starts telling Klingons to fuck off, I might have an issue with it.

I believe Warp Core Breach was going for a bit of irony. The "In the 24th Century humanity has evolved beyond the need for swearing" and Picard saying "Merde" in a few episodes.
That, I didn't know.

But, I don't like Picard, so there's that ;)

Not a fan of the swearing.
Its not going to change the fact that Ill be watching it. But I wont be watching it with my kids until I prescreen it.

Got no problem with it. After reading the article, seems to be sparing moment of joy from a cadet. Can't really judge it until it has been seen on screen.
