The entire approach DSC has taken up to this point suggests they won't go for the TOS look, unless it's heavily modified or has already been heavily modified. Even the D7. When I saw the holo-projection in this episode: my first thought was the opening scene in TMP (because regardless of what anyone thinks of the movie, how can you forget that scene?), not anything from TOS.

The movie D7 is, to my mind, the perfect example of "that's how it always looked." The silhouette is essentially the same, but with more details. I wish Discovery had treated the TOS Enterprise design with the same respect.

In reference to the Augment Virus: With the Klingon Foreheads, in Short Treks, at least those interested in it would get 15 minutes devoted to the issue. I think that's better than one or two lines in the thick of an episode of Discovery.

That's part of what I like about Short Treks. They can go into things Discovery doesn't have time for; or things where it wouldn't make sense for Discovery to be there or have anything to do with.

The Short Treks have a ton of potential. There are just so many cool things you could do with that format.

Finally got a chance to watch, not sure what people are crying about it was a solid 8/10.

No surprise Spock had issues as a child, it was never going to be easy being a hybrid, we saw the same difficulties for Belanna in Voyager.

There was a lot of setup for things we already know will come to pass as well like the Albino and his hatred of house Kol for instance.

Kudos to the Emperor's entrance like a boss, I want a floating shoulder cannon as well.

S31 ship looked interesting, I always suspected they had to have their own ships somewhere, based on what I saw the Georgiou/S31 spinoff could actually work.

Tyler will be much better off in S31 and it will suit him fine, his time with the Klingons was always going to be limited.

I also noted that Georgiou smiled at the baby until she Tyler turned to her and she changed her expression quickly.

Like I said a solid 8/10, I liked the Klingons parts a lot better than in season 1, seeing an actual recognisable Klingon D7 didn't hurt either, now all we need is for them to fix the Birds of Prey.

^ Klingon Augments were at the forefront of the Empire for at least 5 years, which, like that storyline development or not, is very significant in terms of the franchise's history as a whole.
It's a dumb retcon.

And this comes from someone who loved that arc. It was unnecessary, but fun to watch.

Honestly, the ENT Augments being dumber than a box of hammers bothered me a lot more than the Klingon forehead needing a three-part arc.

The problem is - that's how the Klingons were often portray (IE slow on the uptake). Prime example the film STIII:TSFS (Skip to 1 minute 23 seconds in as it appears the BBS strips any code starting at a certain time):

How dumb do you have to be to not realize what such a countdown means? ONLY the Klingon Captain seemed to have a bran here.)

I noticed a couple things in this episode, Kol's father didn't have the same head ridgeds as him. Maybe age changed them

And L'Rell seems to be pushing for uniformity between the Klingon houses, which almost seems to be against what T'Kuvma was preaching. She wanted Kol-sha to remove the paint that made his house unique.

I see Quentin Tarantino's Star Trek debuted this past Thursday. The Baddie was messily slaughtered whilst he was hurling expletives helplessly...

I also see L'Rell went all L'Oreal with a makeover. Looks good.

Removing ink should be something.

Dominant and recessive genes (and foreheads) would be my guess.

On another note: Kol-sha looks like a TNG Klingon. I think they're setting the stage, make-up wise, so Worf can appear in the Picard Series if he ever does, so he can look the way he should look without any issue.

Isn't Discovery teaching us that nothing should look any particular way, other than the way the new showrunners want it to?

I'm way less attached to TNG than TOS, so I'm ready for anything.

It is, but I think the Picard Series is going to be higher profile than Discovery. I say this as someone who's decidedly NOT a TNGer. All my friends who are Star Trek fans are super-excited about the Picard Series. If Worf looks like a Disco Klingon, their reaction is going to be "What the Hell is this?!" That's just being realistic.

Most of them haven't watched DSC, most of them didn't watch ENT, some of them watched DS9 and VOY but not always the whole thing. They treat the Abrams Films like Summer Blockbuster Comic Book Movies. Just another film they went to go see during a given summer. As far as TOS: let's just say I don't see eye-to-eye with many of them. In several cases, we've had to agree to disagree. Though I do have some friends who are TOS Fans, most of them aren't. To them, Star Trek is TNG. Period, basically. And I think the Picard Series is nostalgia bait to get them to start subscribing to CBS All Access. If it is nostalgia bait, then I think they want to play to that nostalgia, not against it.

Micheal Dorn has made it pretty clear he's not going to want to be Worf again if he has everything covered up except his eyeballs. Which I think is reasonable. Unlike Auberjonois or Shimerman he was never an actor with a full mask, and he'd have to change his entire method of portrayal to pull it off.

After this week, I'm not buying the "they fucked" stuff. Michael says she realised after the logic center bomb that she had to drive Spock away - as we saw last series, she was still a pre-teen when that bombing occurred.

Kurtzman laughed and refuted the "fan theory" that this is a lover affair issue on the first "Ready Room" Facebook Live stream.

Thankfully.

The thing is though: The show will be what Patrick Stewart wanted (it was they only way he was talked back into playing the role) - and what Patrick Stewart thinks is 'great for Picard' doesn't always sit well with fans - example?

This is a scene that was specifically requested by Patrick Stewart for "Insurrection":

Right, including, but not limited to:

"Picard in love with Anij"
"Picard singing show tunes with Worf"
"Picard as John McClane, action star"
"Picard as Mad Max"

All pretty universally shat upon by the fan community.

And it's taken until 2018 for a Trek series to show a proper (no alien bodyswapping) gay couple. They may have gotten GoT-like with the Klingon gore, but they are NOT gonna show or even hint at kids of under 12 boffing.

I'll admit you might get a "first kiss" scenario with Burnham taunting Spock about it later. But personally I feel it's more likely she deliberately revealed a secret he had confided in her (probably involving his emotions) to other Vulcan kids, leading to the bullying he received. That would shatter his trust in her equally well.

That wouldn’t work. She needs to show Spock as being more logical, as she said it was to prevent Spock being used against her by the logic extremists. She basically needs to make him look more Vulcan, not less.

Not necessarily. She described him as her “shadow”. She needs to have done something that would make him stop following her around—and from a child’s perspective, that could be almost anything (to be fair, including something that fits your suggestion).
