The creative team? The only person who has been there since the start is Alex Kurtzman and he's no mastermind (where's muh Universal Dark Universe?). Other than that it's been a revolving door. Plus then you have the reshoots for the first 5 episodes. Come on, man. Other than broad strokes they're thinking this up as they go along...and it shows.

You are suggesting "making it up as they go along" is something new for trek?

Where was that shown?

Georgiou said she worked as a ‘security consultant’ and Tyler just said he heard rumours, but those could have been from his memories not Voq’s.

There’s no evidence that the Klingons know about the true S31

ENT surely?

Well, TNG made quite a few changes during its first couple of seasons in overall tone, the look of the set dressings, abilities of a character, replacing an actual character (then later re-replacing her), and totally abandoning a story arc they started with a big cliffhanger episode (although from what I’m told, the concept they were going for in that story arc somehow morphed into the Borg)....

....and after all that, TNG ended up just fine.

Love TNG - but would it stand up as well if there had been more SF-shows on back at the time? The show needed 2 1/2 seasons to actually get going (with the exceptions of Measure of a Man and Q Who), and even afterwards there were pretty low lows in the mix.

I must say that I think you're too harsh on TNG in general...

It'll make the Picard Series an interesting experience for me. It'll be interesting to see Picard in a Post-DS9, Post-2387 Universe and as a character who I don't associate with Serialized/Prestige TV. And this is the first time we'll see Star Trek in the 24th Century without Rick Berman involved. So I'll be curious about how it comes out.

It won't be the same as Discovery for sure. I'll probably end up being one of those "in the middle" posters, when the actual series premieres.

That’s true, but my point wasn’t about whether it would be a success or not from a business standpoint, but rather the show in general eventually turned out to be highly entertaining.

You’re right that maybe TNG wouldn’t be given the chance to succeed today after its (arguably disorganized) first couple of seasons, but ignoring that, the show turned out just fine.

Yes but the DSC Klingons would be aware of the events of ENT and hence S31s' involvement with the augment virus?

But how many ENT Klingons knew about the existence of Section 31? Admiral Krell was the only one we saw who was both working on the Klingon Augment program and spoke with and knew who Harris was. Dr. Antaak and his associates seemed to be working on the genetic enhancement program and nothing else. It was Krell who was the go-between in the Section 31-Klingon plot so it's possible that the origins of the Augment Klingon plot were never disseminated through the Empire and the Augment Virus was just considered a horrible accident without any external blame or cause?

If there are Klingons who know about the existence of Section 31, they are more than likely part of the House of Mokai... and so it's entitely possible that Ash may have heard rumors of their existence from L'Rell either as Voq or in the time that passed in between the end of the war and the point at which we as an audience return to Kronos in Point of Light.

"Hey, suppose instead of bonking the bad guy on the head, Spock uses some kinda Vulcan nerve pinch thingie?"

"Yeah, that could work. How about we give him a hitherto-unmentioned inner eyelid as well?"

"I don't know. We already gave him hitherto-unmentioned telepathic powers AND a hitherto-unmentioned mating drive. You don't think suddenly introducing extra eyelids is pushing it?"

"Nah, let's go for it." :)

Still the overall point of this discussion is whether or not it this episode created a [canonical] problem in that the Klingons would now know about S31. As I said, L'Rell knows, but that doesn't mean the information will be shared with the rest of the Klingon Empire. L'Rell might keep the knowledge of S31 to herself and a few select confidants.

So in direct response to the question that started this discussion, which was:
Shouldn't the big Klingon problem in this nightmare of an episode be that the Klingon's know about S31?
The answer is "No". Future Klingons (in TOS, TNG, etc.) in general will not necessarily know about S31 just because L'Rell does.

Maybe (or maybe not) the highest-ups will have knowledge, just like real-life high-ranking government officials know of secret organizations unknown to people in general, but that does not contradict anything ever shown in Trek thus far.

Spock gained new powers faster than Superman.

I thought Tyler's costume and new "look" was pretty badass in this episode.

I think it's weird that people seem so split in Latif's quality as an actor in this show. I think he's done a tremendous job playing a vast range of things already on DSC. I hope they continue to find good work for him.
