Star Trek crew members, but not really

there have been episodes which have featured crew members, who turned out to not be crew members. First to come to mind is Kieren McDuff, from the TNG episode where they all got amnesia, and he turned out to be one of the aliens.

What other characters have there been that we were led to believe were crew members in any Trek series, but then turned out not to be?

Deanna Troi, she officially joined StarFleet when Captain Jericho made her put on a uniform.

His supposedly superpowerful organization might make people think he's from Starfleet even if he's not. Or then there's no S31, it's only a figment of his own deranged imagination, and he can still convince people he's from Starfleet, at least as much as a certain "Admiral Patrick" from DS9 "Chrysalis" did...

If we allow for fake visiting officers like Patrick, and not just fake crewmen, then there are several additional fake Admirals: Mendez from "Menagerie", Leyton from "Homefront", Janeway from "Coda"...

There was that ensign in that TNG episode where Picard (along with a Mizarian and a Sheliak I believe although I could be mistaken) gets captured and replaced. And in the cell she claims to be a member of Starfleet but is really an alien observing how the captives react.

The name of the episode escapes me though.

^no. She took the Bridge Officers exam. Getting promoted after ordering Geordi get himself killed saving the ship on the holodeck isn't exactly a honorary rank.

Deanna attended SF Academy, she's 'Fleet, she just didn't wear regulation uniform.

and it's JELLICO Thordammit!

and the fake Bolian ensign was in "Alleigance" IIRC, with the Mizarian and a Chalnoth, not a Sheliak.

This is not necessarily in the spirit of the original question, since "we knew all along" that they were not crew members, but you might consider Sisko, Dax, Bashir, and O'Brien, in Trials and Tribble-ations, aboard the TOS Enterprise.

I just remembered some wierd-headed dude from that episode where Riker is in an assylum. Was it "Mind's Eye?"
