Since you are using the term "play acting" in a negative way I am wondering what fan productions you do NOT lump into that category?
I only care about whether or not I am entertained. Just because something was made by a studio does not mean it is automatically entertaining for me. I took two days to finish some of the later Stargate: Atlantis episodes because I literally fell asleep in the middle of them. That has never happened before.
Also with some Hollywood B- or even C movies where you really feel for the poor actors that have to put up with the crap lines. Just because something was made by a studio doesn't automatically mean it is good. The movies I have sat through for a certain actor...
On the other hand, STC sucked me in right from the first minute. So much so that I have lost count of how often I have seen each episode. Which is also very rare for me. And I don't care whether some things are not perfect or could be done better - there is always something that can be done better the next time. But I am entertained, very much so.

Atlantis could have been better. A veritable Star Gate/Trek Voyager mashup with a side order of extra testosterone.
Jason Momoa is now DC/Warner's Film Aquaman- so there's that anyway.
I actually liked elements of Stargate Universe. Wish it could have stood on its own rather than refer back to Earth 'n' stuff so often.
So how to get back to the thread?- there was LIFE to the original Star Gate cast/crew- there were some dud eps, sure- but the group dynamic worked- and the producers cared about the material. The premise in some ways was ridiculous, and enemies a bit Flash Gordon(ish)... but still- there was sumptin' there.
That's what Continues has. That certain "je ne sais Trek"... You see it on the screen- you hear in it the orchestrations/cues...thanks to Mr Farber! The ep I keep watching is "Fairest of Them All" I know I'm in the minority here as that being a favourite- but that final "Bounty" scene. Just so pitch perfect. Extra credit for them (IIRC) going to Johnson Space Center and using the actual restored TOS production Galileo.

I don't think I got far enough in for the mind meld. I"ll grant that there were some excellent scenes with fantastic acting. And there were plenty that were just "meh" for me.

Fiona Vroom may be reprising her role as a "Green Girl" in Star Trek: Beyond. Her performance as Lolani was apparently noticed. I hope she gets some lines.

I wouldn't trust IMDB for that sort of information, particularly in the lead-up to the film. Literally anyone can add a credit/resource on IMDB.
For example: I know a girl who makes sure to list herself credited from nearly every single major genre film in the past four years or so simply because she works as an assistant for one of the marketing firms that advertises for Disney. She's something of a joke in our circles because we know there's literally no realistic way she could be attached to (conveniently) Mission: Impossible (Paramount), Lord of the Rings/The Hobbit (New Line), Jurassic World (Universal), The Avengers (Disney/Marvel) and Harry Potter (Warner Bros.). Basically, whatever the big genre movie of the moment, she claims to have worked on it, from inexplicably being on set watching Tom Cruise do his stunts to being in the edit bay while cutting the final scenes of a film with the editors. Even if she were someone important at her company (spoiler alert: she isn't. She's simply a pathological liar.)
Then again maybe Vroom will be in the film. Or perhaps it was some overzealous fan of Continues who wants to try to spark a bit of "legitimacy" (or what their fanboy minds view as legitimacy) this way. Or perhaps Vroom did it herself to get some exposure. We won't know till July 22, 2016.
I just don't think IMDB is a particularly trustworthy site for things like this. If Vroom announced it on her website or Twitter, I'd be more inclined to believe it, but IMDb on it's own? Ha!

I actually got the info from a Chris Doohan tweet, but we also have this "Fan Girl's" tweet. I guess whether or not she'll be green is up in the air but I'm kind of betting on it.

So the episode, in a sense, had a happy ending after all. Nice. Good for her. Wonder who saw what when?
Oh, and when do we get the similar Tweet from Ferrigno? (Otherwise I'm packing my ruck sack, and walking quietly down the road- alone- with only a piano solo to accompany me)

I kind of wish White Iris was playing out after E7, so that they could draw Kirk's issues and loss into play into the arc of him leaving the Enterprise, or maybe even expand on an issue of trust between him and Spock, regarding the violation of his memories being taken away by Spock... this could have led Spock into some self reflection on those actions and his own emotional state, leading him back to Vulcan by the end of the series.
Hmm. Interesting thought.
As you probably know, when TOS was made, the network chose the broadcast order. Several episodes where in-the-can before each season began, but on STC, they take many months to complete and are released as soon as possible, usually following a con premier. When STC has completed its run, it would be nice if Vic and the gang, revamped the website to include a viewing order like Netflix and possible re-number the episodes. Of course they are all stand alone episodes (so far) with no story arc, so one could view them in any order they choose.
Was there a logic to Spock's mind meld? Or was that an *emotional* move to help his hurting comrade? Rationalizing it as being for Kirk's "ability to command" can only be taken so far. If Kirk had reacted badly to the knowledge that his own mind and heart had been tampered with by outside telepathic intrusion, it could set up quite the conflict between the two. With proper writing, it could absolutely lead to Spock attempting to shed himself of all emotions...
