Star Trek comics- are there any good ones?

I unerstand that before long, IDW will have a DS9 omnibus from the series by Malibu Comics which had such a great coloring system that Marvel bought it and cancelled all Malibu titles.

I think you're thinking of volume 4 of the Star Trek Archives series, Best of Deep Space Nine, which despite its title, simply collects the first five issues of the Malibu series, plus some kinda ashcan story.

DC Comics' Mirror Universe Saga is going to be reprinted by IDW soon as well, under the similarly bizarre title, Best of Alternate Universes.

There are a lot of pretty good ST comics, but I have to recommend Chris Claremont's graphic novel Debt of Honor above most of them. It's a really fun story that spans most or Kirk's career from the early days to the period around STIV. Good artwork by Adam Hughes (IIRC).

You do RC . That's also one of my favorites; I was very happy to rediscover it amongst my belongings after I moved this last time. Claremont managed to tie in a lot of secondary characters from TOS to the storyline - not to mention addressing the difference in the Klingons from TOS to TMP. And Hughes' art, even this early in his career, was great, esp. his women (to be expected ).

The story managed to leave hanging the question of whether Kirk had yet another child out there.

Let me enthusiastically second the vote for Early Voyages, Starfleet Academy and Debt of Honor. (And, of course, Last Generation--thanks, Randy.) Good stuff, all.

For the new Archives series, I would also single out the first volume, The Best of Peter David. Peter and I picked out some great stories for that volume, including the Scotty-centric annual Peter wrote, probably the single best work of his entire Star Trek run. I still go back and re-read it every now and again.

I got the DVD a few months back, and so far I have read and enjoyed the first 12 or so issues of the first DC series, the first 7( I think) issues of Early Voyages which has been awsome, the same number of Starfleet Academy which IMO hasn't been as good as EV, and I read Perchance to Dream (KRAD's TNG miniseries) and I also really enjoyed that one. I've also read the most of the Unlimited comics by Marvel, which usually had a TOS and TNG story in each issue. If you decide to do the DC stuff I'd keep in mind that the first series, which does feature the awsome Mirror Universe Saga, was written while the TOS movies were coming out, so there are alot of inconsistacies between it and TNG+ stuff. Some of the best examples would be the Klingon Emperor being in several of them, and lots of references to going up to warp 13, 17 ect. I also just read the first issue of the Wildstorm TNG movie era miniseries The Killing Shadows, and I thought it was pretty good too.

OMG yes- that was so awesome!!! I'm amazed anyone besides me ever saw it! Not many get (or should I say "GOT") the B&W mags, unless it's the later colourized reprint that you saw- ?
That must have looked nice too.

I did indeed get the B/W "Marvel Premiere"; I also got the color reprint, which I thought was very poorly done (and too small). I managed to find a very good copy of the original on eBay last year for under $10!

I can't tell you how many times I re-read that book, or how much drool I had to wipe off as I did.
Back then, Byrne was my God, and Austin was my saviour.

Wow, no doubt about that. If there's one story I'd like to see reprinted, it's Debt of Honor (as long as they don't shrink it down like they do in the omnibus series.

A "family" reunion. Characters I hadn't seen in decades. And hitting warp speed at the last possible second. Too much fun for one brain to contain.
