Star Trek: Colony

Distorted Humor

It might be a silly idea to hope for a new live action trek, but one idea that could be used well is Star Trek: Colony (Ok, the name sucks, but it would be more likely something like "Star Trek: Insert name of the colony") but with the basic plot line of a Starship is forced to abandon ship above a isolated M-Class planet, with a nebula that disrupts communication with the outside world. The crew is scattered across the planet, they must survive, build a community, and figure out how to tell how to get off the planet. Yes, I know its a bit like LOST or earth2, but by the time this show would go into production, it would be a few years since LOST went off the air, and its been a while since Earth2....

Silly idea? or Great Idea? :bolian:

It seems like a bad premise for a Star Trek series. It's not exactly "The Final Frontier" if they're stuck on a planet. We wouldn't get to see the various Aliens of the Week unless they come here. And it would be like Gilligan's Island in that they never tell anybody about these castaways.

I think it could be interesting if done right. But at the very least, it can't be just about the crew of the ship surviving. That can be an interesting story, but it's not quite a Star Trek kind of story. There needs to be an alien element to spice things up. Maybe the planet already has inhabitants or the crew finds the ruins of an extinct civilization and tries to find out what happened to them. Also, I don't see a reason for the crew to be scattered across the planet. Maybe scattered over a few dozen miles or so.

Well I assume that would be a given, that they would find ruins of a long lost civilization, other ships that have crashed on the planet, and so on.

Most likely it would be better as a stand alone or as a trek miniseries, but hey, I still think its a idea not used by Star Trek yet....:bolian:

Throw in some dinosaurs and Sleestaks and you've got Land of the Lost. :guffaw:
Maybe a albino bear and a smoke creature too. And there is some conflict with the evil half of the crew
on the other side of the island ... err, planet.

:)

too much like Earth 2 and Lost as you said.

don't remember the name of the episode but Voyager did an episode like that where Tom, Doc and I think Harry were stuck inside that time tunnel on a planet of wrecked ships with that girl from the movie Tank Girl.

From what I've read, Outcast sounds (sounded) quite interesting, but haven't actual seen an episode yet.

The basic concept of the OP just doesn't sound like it has enough "wizz-bang" to draw a minimal 3 million viewers.

The world itself would have to be really cool get people hooked....but you are most likely correct in that regard...

Colonize a whole star system or a bunch of star systems in a single area. That way you keep the space exploration angle. Bounce between planetside and space based adventures.

It would make an interesting fic, but live action? er...um, well, I dunno. After "Lost", I kinda lost my taste for that sort of thing.

The ideal of doing a colony series was explored as the first spin off from TNG. The producers mentioned you have 3 options, Starship, On a Planet, and Space Station. They were exploring the ideal of doing a colony series for awhile, even drew up a series bible. They decided to do a space station near a wormhole instead because they know Star Trek is about exciting things happening in space and how we got "Star Trek Deep Space Nine"

This could work as a story arc of a part of a larger Star Trek show, lets say the crew gets rescued by the Enterprise in the end. Probably can do 3 or 4 episode arc.

interesting idea, it all depends how you structure entire story, background and if you add few plots and twists could be quite interesting. :techman:

I like the idea of a terraforming convey.

100,000 plus federation folk looking to form a new land.

Some might call it terranova :D

upon arriving on the planet, they discover an ancient civilization buried under regolith.

A competitor plot would also be interesting. With a wave of romulan, klingon colonist looking for a portion of the planet to keep to themselves.

Add in some inique astrophysics and I think you might have something.
