Star Trek Brings In $7 Million Thursday Night

Friday isn't even over yet in some time zones lol, give it time people, be patient

$25 million on Friday seems about right for a $60-70 million weekend with good WOM. Films like this usually do a little less on each of Saturday and Sunday than Friday.

I'm guessin' at this point, it's goning to hit somewhere between 82 to 97 million by monday...

Not if it makes at least 28 million both Sat & Sun.

(besides, I said it was a guess...)

It could make $28 on Saturday, but then not more than $20 on Sunday....so probably $80 million is the max. The only way it could make more than that is if Saturday is stronger.

I was under the impression that Saturday is typically weaker than Friday.

Depends on the movie. The average movie goes up on Saturday. Event movies with large followings tend to drop on Saturdays.

Saturday is typically stronger than Friday, but films that are highly anticipated and that have a built-in audience that'll rush to see it at the earliest opportunity quite often dip on their opening Saturday. I think we're looking at $70-75 million.

Um... how can they have Friday numbers in when Friday isn't even over is some areas of the country?

Probably extrapolating from the early returns. The people whose job it is to follow the numbers for the studios are getting them all through the day. They just aren't reported.

It's not an official number. The studio gathers box office data from theaters throughout the country during the night, and eventually comes up with an estimate of how much $ the movie made. They're in the process of doing that right now. But people in the know leak the preliminary numbers to journalists like Nikki Finke with guesses as to what the final number will look like, based on what they're seeing so far.

Yes, of course in this case, the Thursday night shows mean that some of that "rush out to see it right away" audience actually went on Thursday instead of Friday. So the Friday-to-Saturday drop should be pretty small.

Ah, ok...

I found it interesting that the theater I went to apparently split the 1015 showing into two screens because online ticket sales were high enough to warrant it.

I spoke with the girl who was shunted to the "expansion concession stand" they had set up in front of the trek expansion screen. She made three observations. One, most people were bypassing concessions in order to get into the theater and "not miss anything" and this was observed yesterday as well. Two, that they were having "parking issues". and Three, that xmen has died off and that trek's numbers are up with iron man for this theater, but not the packed to the capacity that was dark knight.

Here's hoping.

All I can say is that we saw it last night, I would like to see it again as would dear son 1, 2 and 3. Hubby would like to see it again as well and I will be buying the DVD as soon as it hits the shelves.

ETA: Whereas the Nemesis dvd I would like to use as a drink coaster.
