Spoilers Star Trek: Boldly Go Comic Series Review Thread

Mike Johnson, the writer, said on Twitter: "Boldly Go is wrapping up but you have not seen the end of the Kelvin cast by a long shot. If I say anything more the NDA Ninjas will come for me." We may see a third Kelvin timeline ongoing comic or some type of miniseries following at some point after March.

Some ongoing series these days are just switching a series of miniseries, with an ongoing overarching story, but new numbering and a new title with each arc. Maybe they're just switching to that style.

Or rather, switching back to that style, since all of IDW's Trek comics prior to the Kelvinverse comic were miniseries. That's why the first Kelvinverse series was often called Star Trek Ongoing -- because it was the only one that was.

I'm kinda hoping they give the kelvin-verse a rest for a while. I really enjoyed the Broken Mirror mini-series. I hope they move back into doing more prime-universe stories. Although, i know Broken Mirror wasn't "technically" a prime-universe story. It was nice to see Picard, Riker, etc. again in a story.

Read issue 15.
So, we’re going really wild. Same characters, same Enterprise - but plant-based instead? And floating gas-forms, like Chief Engineer Zero in the abortive ST: Final Frontier animated series? Check. Anything goes.

A highlight is the Captain Female!Spock, proving that the gender-reversed universe is not a one-off fluke. On the other hand, losing the Enterprise in ST3 stands out!
Another highlight is the continuity by referencing Q (“The Q Gambit” miniseries). On Risa, we see Ferengi, Andorian, Caitian.

We see two Enterprises labelled - NC177 and NX-01E (with a mirrored 1). The latter points to a registry lineage with the NX-01.
Is the Groot-like Enterprise from Issue 14 Plant-Kirk’s?

Downsides:
The art style is good but doesn’t get the likenesses as well as Issue 14. Miss Chekov changes to a completely new hairstyle that cannot be explained with off-screen restyling.

The story can’t develop much depth and explore the inner works of the fascinating characters and back story as well as a novel. We get bite-sized story chunks. But having it all visualised is amazing. In an ideal universe, it would be a novel with pictures.

I'm kinda bummed that the series is ending with this broken mirror based storyline. My least favorite thing they've done in the comics, apart from the Borg that showed up in the KT a while ago.

I'm pretty sure they've at least implied this isn't necessarily the end of the Kelvinverse series, just the end of it being called "Boldly Go".

Just out of curiosity, are the TAS/TOS movie style Caitians, or do they look like the twins from Into Darkness? According to Memory Alpha someone involved with the movie said they were "Caitians", but I don't really like taking away the whole humanoid cat aspect of them.

Maybe they're Caitians by nationality instead of species. Sci-fi tends to forget that immigration is a thing.

Works for me. At first I thought maybe they were just shaved or hairless Caitians, but then I took a second look at the ones from TAS and the movies and their faces are more feline than human than the twins'.

Captain Female!Spock refers to her Kirk as a 'He', so the universe she is from isn't completely reversed.
Cool! I missed that.
Gosh, I wish we could get a new Myriad Universes anthology that fleshes out these realities.

The Risan Caitian are catlike cat-people.
